Psalm Chapter 149

Again, the psalm that we're going to be studying, Psalm 149 is a psalm about worship. Fact, many of the last few Psalms dealt just with that subject, worshiping God, praising God and giving thanks to God. And let me simply say that when we look at the word of God, whether it's in the Old Covenant or New Covenant, whether it's the law of Moses, whether it's prophecy, whether it's an epistle or a gospel, we need to honor the Word of God by translating it properly and not taking liberties with the text that we ought not because the word of God is inspired by the Holy Spirit, and it's only when we receive the Word of God as the Spirit inspired the Word of God to be then we can see God's order coming into our life, that we can understand His truth and we can respond to it.

Today we begin another chapter in the book of Luke, chapter 22 and with this new chapter, we also have a new subject. We are going to be speaking about the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is also known in a general sense with the term Passover. Now hopefully you'll remember that in the previous chapter, there was an emphasis on the end times, and we find that the objective of the End Times is a transition out of this world and into the kingdom of God, and the only way that we can make it out of this world that into the kingdom of God is through redemption.

The easiest way to discuss this psalm is to be told that this psalm is all about worship. It is a broad invitation to all of creation to worship God. And the key word here is the word praise. Now praising God means that you acknowledge both who he is and what He has done, and you extol him as Lord over all, recognizing that he is sovereign.

Now when we compare Luke's version to Matthew, we find that Matthew is much more extensive in speaking about different things that are going to happen in the last days different, and we could say additional things that are going to take place, but in this scripture, we're going to see something in Luke's version as he concludes

The book of Psalms is called, in Hebrew, the book of praises. And of course, the word praise relates to worship, but we need to understand something when we deal with biblical worship, a very important part of that is sacrifice worship according to Scripture, involves sacrifice that is giving. And I'm not just talking about giving money, but giving of your very self, being willing to lay down your life and everything that your life consists of, being willing to utilize that for the purposes of God. So worship is surrender.

Again, we find ourselves within the book of Proverbs. And again, Proverbs revealed to us biblical truth that should govern our life and rule our life. We see in our chapter today that God is giving us his perspective, so again, that we can act in this world wisely, that we can demonstrate our knowledge of God, that we can behave in a way that shows that we're not like the world, but that we have been brought out of this world and into his marvelous light, and that light should guide us, that light is a light of illumination so we see things differently and that we can choose wisely.

Again, we're going to be talking about the end times, and one of the things that make understanding the end times difficult is when we don't have a good grasp of an overview for this period of time, meaning we really don't know what's going to happen and when it's going to happen, but if you are a good student of prophecy, both Old Testament prophecy and the prophecy we find in the New Testament, you can have a good understanding of these key events.

R. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Zera Avraham Institute based in Israel. He also appears on the Israeli Television program Pdut L'amo where he teaches each week from the Bible (This program is in Hebrew).
A similar Bible Study program in English is broadcast on numerous television networks across the United States, Europe, and Africa. Many of his lectures are available in the forms of video, audio and written on Pdut.org (Hebrew) and LoveIsrael.org (English).
Baruch holds a PhD in Jewish Studies. His dissertation was in the translation techniques of the Septuagint. Baruch has been married for 30 years to his wife, Rivka, and they have three adult children. The Kormans live in Israel.
