You we need to realize that we are called to behave differently, that we are called to take biblical truth and apply it to our life, that we have a testimony, that we bear witness to the standards of God, and in doing so, we begin to manifest the character of God, because He has redeemed us. He has given us His Spirit in order that we might demonstrate God's order in our life, in everything that we think, every word that we speak and every action we take, Lord, we want to be individuals that live with discernment, that make wise decisions, that reveal to others that we belong to the living God, the God of Israel.

The psalm that we're going to study, Psalm 139 is a very difficult Psalm for a variety of reasons. First of all, there are some theological issues that can be quite confusing. Secondly, the language of this psalm is not typical Biblical Hebrew. There are many words that are unusual, so it requires a great deal of preparation.

But we have to be careful. Because that change life those good works, that's faithfulness is not part of our means of salvation. It's the outcome. It is our testimony, our witness, it's very important. But it is not connected to how we are saved. It's simply manifest to others that we have been saved. What the scripture that we're going to be looking at today speaks of is how truly those who belong to the kingdom. They're going to demonstrate a kingdom commitment.

Going to begin this lesson by talking about regeneration. Now, regeneration is a theological term that we can understand simply with the term being born again, meaning we become that new creation. We all know the verse in Second Corinthians, chapter five and verse 17, where Paul says, If anyone is in Christ, he or she becomes a new creation.

With God, there's always hope. It doesn't matter how far away you are from God, how far your sins and iniquity have taken you away from the will of God with God as we learned, all things are possible, and he can save you. And he can cleanse you and give you life, even eternal life. But you have to want him, you have to want His grace.

Shalom and welcome to our study of the book of Psalms. Now we're going to focus in today, in this installment on Psalm 137 and that is a very well known Psalm within the Jewish community, and it's well known for two primary reasons. First of all, the content of this psalm. It makes mention of a very tragic event in Jewish history, and I'm talking about the Babylonian captivity. The Babylonian captivity is a scar that still remains upon our people.

Learn a biblical principle. When you are reading in the Word of God, especially in the gospels, and there is a change of location. That usually foreshadows a change in the subject, there's going to be a new issue that's going to be discussed and taught by the word of God. And we see a change in location. In our last study, we concluded a section of the Psalms known as the songs of ascents. And now we're ready for Psalm 136 and this psalm is very historical. Meaning this, as we go through these verses, we will see that this psalm speaks about some of the important things that have happened in Israel's history. And the second thing that dominates this psalm, in fact, every verse contains it, and that is a mention of God's grace.

Baruch holds a PhD in Jewish Studies. His dissertation was in the translation techniques of the Septuagint. Baruch has been married for 30 years to his wife, Rivka, and they have three adult children. The Kormans live in Israel.
