I do not know why. But when we talk about Shabbat, there seems to be so much resistance today from those who claim that they are believers in the Messiah of Israel. And what we need to see is that when we study Shabbat, and this is true, whether we do so, from the Old Covenant, or the New Covenant, when we see how especially Messiah, how he taught on Shabbat, how he healed on Shabbat, how he emphasize in the Scripture, the truth of Shabbat relating to the kingdom of God, we need to have respect for the Shabbat.

Last week, we began a study of Leviticus chapter 25. And we saw that one of the primary things in this chapter is the Year of Jubilee, which is called in Hebrew, ha yeoville. And we see concerning this year of Jubilee rules that we are to follow. Now, let's be clear about something the laws of Shmita and why do I bring Shmita.

There's a strong connection between humility and spirituality. What does that mean? The more humble you are, the more you will grow spiritually, and the better prepared you will be to serve God. In other words, humility causes us to be used by God, and to become a faithful servant. But realize this, the converse of that statement is also true.

And as I also shared a few minutes ago, that word yeoville, according to the Bible relates to liberty and freedom. And in order to have such freedom and liberty, we need to learn how to trust God in all things. Now, we know that hunger is a strong desire.

R. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Zera Avraham Institute based in Israel. He also appears on the Israeli Television program Pdut L'amo where he teaches each week from the Bible (This program is in Hebrew).
A similar Bible Study program in English is broadcast on numerous television networks across the United States, Europe, and Africa. Many of his lectures are available in the forms of video, audio and written on Pdut.org (Hebrew) and LoveIsrael.org (English).
Baruch holds a PhD in Jewish Studies. His dissertation was in the translation techniques of the Septuagint. Baruch has been married for 30 years to his wife, Rivka, and they have three adult children. The Kormans live in Israel.
