The Unseen War Part 13a

March 5, 2025

Today on Light on the Hill we learn that there is a time and a place for confrontation, and seeking to restore someone.  But there is a right way and a wrong way of doing this, so we need to get God’s perspective and help.

On today’s broadcast, we continue our series, “The Unseen War.”  And pastor James will not only raise our awareness to this unseen war, but point us to the Lord who can lead us to victory in our day to day lives.  We’re in Galatians five, verses 13-26.

In recent studies we’ve established that in Christ we are free and no longer under bondage.  No doubt you’ve run across someone who has taken that the wrong way.  They’re involved in a sinful lifestyle and they try to justify what they’re doing by saying, “Hey we’re all free to do what we want, and we’re under grace right!”  We’re about to see that there is a right way and a wrong way to use our freedom in Christ.

We’re in a series called, “The Mind of Christ,” where we’re receiving an education in developing a biblical mindset.  Today we turn our attention to the parable of the talents in Matthew chapter 25, and it lays out for us God’s expectation of managing His resources.

If you’ve been with us in our study of the book of Galatians you’ll know the Galatian Christians we’re being drawn into legalism.  False teachers had come in and were perverting the gospel message. It’s an age-old problem that exists still today. One important way we can avoid falling into legalism is to hold fast to the Word of God and the freedom we’ve been given in Jesus.

The God of the Bible is a God who liberates not enslaves. When someone actually experiences the grace of God, it changes and frees them to be all that the Lord created them to be. But as we’ll discover today, some who have experienced this wonderful freedom, choose to go back to the place of bondage.  This was happening in the churches of Galatia, and we’ll hear all about it today on Light on the Hill.

The New Testament book of Galatians in part warns that turning from grace can rob the Christian of their blood bought freedom.  We'll hear more about that today.

We’re in a spiritual war, every day, and when we’re hit by the enemy it can leave us with deep wounds.  But we have a God who wants to fight for us, so we’re to seek Him in prayer each and every day asking for His help!

We’re about to continue our series, The Unseen War, with another visit to Galatians.  We’re about to see some wonderful descriptions of what happens to us before we knew the Lord, then what happens to us when we receive the Lord, and finally what it took for that to happen.  And it all relates to the Unseen War, more than you may realize!

The parable of the talents is one of the most powerful parables ever given to us by Christ and it teaches us so much about how to manage all that he has entrusted us with. This passage is often nominalized when in reality, it may serve as the most important passage given to us in dealing with stewardship on every level. Finances, health, life, and everything in between. The parable outlines God’s expectation of managing His resources!
