Put Off and Put On Part 2

June 29, 2021

It’s said that it takes a greater passion to conquer a passion. And it’s true. In Colossians chapter three we’ll learn three practical steps to take in the conquering sinful practices or bad habits. We’re to put off, and put on.  Today on Light on the Hill pastor James Kaddis explains how this relates to our identity.

Hey do you have a bad habit, you’d like to see go away?  Maybe it’s the continual use of curse words, or looking at things you shouldn’t on the internet?  Today we learn that a key to victory is substituting the bad with something good!  In other words, put off and put on!

Today we return to our exciting study of Revelation.  We’ll be looking at the Lord’s postcard to the church in Ephesus. While they were commended for some things, they had left their first love.  Their love had grown cold.  It happened to the Ephesians and it’s still happening to Christians today. If things aren’t where they used to be in your relationship with Jesus, today’s message will show you how to get back on track.

We realize mindset matters in many areas of life.  If a pro athlete shows up to a game and his or her mind is a million miles away, it will show up in their performance.  Or how about a businessman who is struggling at home, and carries that angry or hurt mindset into the workplace.  They often struggle in some areas right?  Today on Light on the Hill, we discover mindset matters in the Christian life as well.

We’ll join pastor James Kaddis in Colossians chapter three today.  You can see evidence all around of how destructive the mindset of the world is.  But today we want to focus on the mindset God wants us to have.  It’s totally different.  And it has everything to do with seeking those things that are above.

The Bible often speaks of the Old Covenant saints as living in a time of shadows.  Especially in regard to the ceremonies and sacrifices of the law.  But that all pointed to Jesus. And now that Jesus has come, died, rose again and fulfilled the law there’s no reason to remain in the shadows.  Today’s study from pastor James Kaddis will encourage us to focus on Jesus instead, and the things that really matter in life.

We’ll be in Colossians chapter two, focusing on verses 16-23.  Back then, and still today, people make feasts and certain days of the week out to be more than they should be.  Whether it’s the Sabbath or Passover.  But as we’ll discover today, all of this was designed to point to Jesus.

Pastor James Kaddis will be covering Colossians chapter two, verses ten through fifteen. Today you’ll learn what it means to be complete in Christ and have your sins forgiven.  Once you come to understand this, it can radically change your life.

Today pastor James Kaddis continues his series in Revelation, and we begin a look at the first of seven letters Jesus gave to seven different churches.  What do you suppose Jesus would say if He stopped by for a visit to your church?  Would He commend you all and say keep that up?  Or would He offer some words of correction?  The church at Ephesus received both.

Many today are looking for completeness or identity in another person, their race or from their job.  But the truth of the matter is we’ll only find completeness and our true identity in Jesus!  Today on Light on the Hill the focus is on Christ, His sufficiency and that we are made complete in Him.

We all need wisdom and knowledge to make good choices in life.  Whether it’s to take the vaccine, accept a job or marriage proposal, or move cross country.  But where do you turn for that?   None other than the source of wisdom and knowledge… Jesus Christ.  Pastor James Kaddis will encourage us in that direction today on Light on the Hill through a study of Colossians chapter two.
