It's not easy to be a committed follower of Jesus. In fact, He tells us to be disciple makers, meaning that the overflow of His life inside us will make a difference in somebody else's life.   Dr. Stanley explains that there is a degree of pain and suffering that can develop in our true obedience of discipleship to Jesus Christ. Our love and devotion to Him must supersede our love and devotion to all others, even to the point of being painful. Also, since we cannot serve “things” and Christ, we have to be attached to one or the other. There is absolutely no way to lose being obedient to Him.

Dr. Charles F. Stanley was the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta for more than fifty years. Known to audiences around the world through his wide-reaching TV and radio broadcasts, Stanley modeled his 65 years of ministry after the apostle Paul’s message in Acts 20:24: “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s mighty kindness and love.”
