Grace And Continuing Sin - Part 2

April 25, 2022

We’ve all had to deal with coming back to God with the same thing over and over again and wondering, "How long will He keep forgiving for the same sins?" Just how much grace is available to us?

Dr. Stanley suggests that if a person is saved, sin cannot terminate her relationship to God. But it can destroy her testimony, fellowship, joy, peace, happiness, and purpose for living. A sinful lifestyle is like a disease and is spread by human nature.

Discover how God’s love for you is so great that despite the things you’ve done or the number of times you’ve stumbled, He is always there to extend His mercy to you. Regardless of your sin, you cannot exceed the grace of God.

We gain citizenship into heaven by being born into God’s family. Jesus clearly stated, “You must be born again” (John 3:3, 5). That means we believe He paid the sin debt of the world on our behalf. Dr. Stanley explains why the cross and the resurrection are the two foundational truths in all of Christianity. They serve as reminders of how God will keep His promise that Jesus will come back again, giving Christians a sense of eagerness for His return. Until then, we can remain busy through loving, giving and serving the Lord. After all, Jesus lives inside us, enabling us to love those who are lovable and unlovable.

The defining event of our faith and church is the awe-inspiring resurrection of Christ. Calvary not only demonstrated His power over death, but also God’s capacity to keep His word. Dr. Stanley reminds us that without this event, Christianity would lose its message that Christ came to earth to die for our sins and triumph over death. Because of His resurrection, we can face our tomorrows knowing that He is always with us—now and in heaven.

When we incur financial debt, we have obligated ourselves to pay back what we owe. But how do we pay back our spiritual debt of sin? Dr. Stanley teaches us that God’s only answer to our sin-debt was and is the cross. Through His love and justice He sent an innocent person to the cross to die for our sins. The result proved that: 1. The sacrifice was accepted. 2. Redemption was completed. We must understand that this atoning death is the heart of the gospel. Christ summed it up when He said, “ ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” John 19:29-31
