Great to have you along today for Hope From the Word. Pastor Bill Luebkemann is our teacher, and once again we'll be looking at Matthew's gospel. Today we'll stop at chapter twenty, as we continue to see the Lord teaching; using one of His favorite methods, the parable. We'll look at the parable of the Vineyard workers again today, which is found in Matthew chapter twenty. This story points out a very important fact that we should always keep in mind. Throughout our lifetime, our appetites tend to change. Most of us, at times, get tired or “burned out” of certain types of food. Our appetites change throughout the day as well. Imagine eating a chili dog for breakfast! Likewise, our spiritual appetites should change when becoming a Christian. At the moment of our conversion, the Holy Spirit begins to create a hunger and a thirst for righteousness in us. Today on Hope From the Word, Pastor Bill Luebkemann will ask us to consider what we are hungry for, and we'll see the truth in the old adage that “you are what you eat.” All of this is part of Pastor Bill's study of the beatitudes. Oftentimes we get the idea that meekness is the same as weakness. Maybe you think that if you display meekness, you make yourself a doormat. But today on Hope from the Word, we'll see that true meekness is power under control. It's being willing to humble yourself and submit to a better way or a better plan. Christ Himself displayed meekness during His time on earth. We're going to take a look at the beatitudes and see how we can be more like Jesus so join us now in Matthew chapter five. Today on Hope From the Word, Pastor Bill Luebkemann will begin a detailed examination of the first twelve verses of the Sermon on the Mount, known as the Beatitudes. “Blessed are” can be translated to mean “happy are”, so what we're really exploring here is the road to true and lasting happiness.
