David and Goliath 2, 1 Samuel 17

July 9, 2024

Fear is a controlling force. Over the centuries, evil leaders have controlled entire countries through fear. Today, Pastor Bill takes us to first Samuel seventeen where the entire Hebrew army is frozen in fear because of one Philistine Giant. There, we find a young man who would not even be old enough to join the military, yet he stepped out to fight the most feared man in the Philistine army. Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann to tell you about this remarkable young man who put his trust in the Lord alone...

There are a lot of great stories in the Bible that we share with our kids. There is one however that I think young boys love more than almost any other. The story of David and Goliath. Here's a teenager nobody believed in (except God). David went to the battle front choosing only to carry his favorite sling shot and some rocks. The result? He defeated a giant of a man trained for war. God truly shows Himself as mighty in this amazing encounter. Here is Pastor Bill with the story from First Samuel chapter seventeen...

Fear is contagious. It's amazing how fear and mass hysteria spreads through a crowd and can even affect the bravest of men. Well, as we look into First Samuel we find a King and his entire army trapped in fear because of a man so large you would have to have a ladder just to touch his head. And perhaps, their fear was justifiable. But there was one young man who did not fear this giant. Not because of his trust in himself, but because of his trust in his God. Here's the story of young David as he approaches his brothers to find out what is going on with the battle in front of them.

One of the most memorable characters of all time in wrestling would have to be Andre the Giant. At seven feet and four inches tall and five hundred pounds, he was HUGE. A similar giant in sports is Dwight Howard. Both of these men are legendary for their amazing size, however, there was a man who dwarfed them both. His height was somewhere between nine and a half to eleven feet tall, and his coat of armor alone weighed as much as a man. His spear was a two by four with a twenty-pound head on the end. His name was Goliath, and he dared defy the army of God. Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann in First Samuel Chapter seventeen...

Often God says to us, “Don't worry about it, just wait for me and I will take care of it.” We often grow impatient and don't always wait as we should. We try to take things into our own hands and then completely mess things up. Well, as we look at first Samuel thirteen, we find out what happened when Saul decided not to wait on what God had for him! He took matters into his own hands and offered a sacrifice, something forbidden. Here is Pastor Bill to tell us about it...

We all hate waiting. We hate to wait in long lines, we hate to wait for dinner, and we really don't like having to wait for packages to come in the mail. Well, while none of us really enjoy waiting for just about anything, some things are worse than others. For instance, waiting on medical results. Waiting for an organ donor. Here in first Samuel three, we find Saul having to wait in a pretty dire situation. His kingdom is going to be attacked by a mighty army and Samuel says wait a few days. Unfortunately, Saul didn't wait, and we're about to see what happened as a result.  Here's Pastor Bill Luebkemann on Hope from the Word.

Have you ever made a promise you wish you hadn't?  Perhaps you told a friend you were going to help with a project after work? But you end up having a terrible day and you really want to go home and fall asleep. Well, Hannah made a promise much more significant than that. She promised her son to the Lord. While most would have a hard time keeping their word following such a promise, Hannah proved faithful to hers. Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann on Hope from the Word as we continue our Thru the Bible study! We begin in first Samuel Chapter one where we find Hannah keeping her vow to the Lord…

Perhaps one of the more heart-breaking things for a married couple is the inability to have a child. Well, as we come to our study taken from first Samuel chapter one, we find a woman named Hannah who had this very issue, and it broke her heart. But we'll also see that God saw and understood her grief just as he sees your grief today. Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann as he describes the surrounding circumstances of this downcast woman as well as what she did about it.

God is such an amazing redeemer. It is truly awesome that he will take clay like us and create something beautiful for his glory. Today as we continue our look into the book of Ruth, we find that God took a pagan woman from Moab and not only turned her into His child, but plugged her into the very line of Jesus Christ Himself. What an awesome gift! Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann again in the book of Ruth.  We catch up with the story as Naomi tells Ruth she will have no other sons for her to marry.

We can all remember times where we have felt at the end of our rope; perhaps following the loss of a job, a hurtful relationship, or the loss of a loved friend or family member. Here in the book of Ruth, we find a woman who lost all she had in her life. All those that were important to her had perished, except one, a daughter-in-law who would later be in the line of David, Solomon, and Jesus. Here is Pastor Bill Luebkemann to take us through the story of tragedy turned blessing here in the book of Ruth.

Today we pick up where we left off yesterday with the story of Samson and Delilah. We tell our kids from an early age, don't touch the stove or even get near it, or you'll get burned. Some of us still like to test how close we can get. When it comes to sin, it's wise to stay as far away as possible. If you flirt with disaster, you're going to run into problems. As we'll see, Sampson found out the hard way. Pastor Bill is picking up his teaching in Judges chapter sixteen. It's the story of Sampson, a life divided!
