Build The House - Haggai 1

January 21, 2025

Welcome to Hope From the Word, the radio outreach of Calvary Chapel of Marlton. Our teacher is Pastor Bill Luebkemann, who is taking us through Haggai, one of the Minor Prophets at the end of the Old Testament. And it seems that the folks in Old Testament times had the same awful temptation that we do today, not finding time for God. What are the consequences of such misplaced priorities? We'll find out today. Pastor Bill begins today's study in Haggai chapter one and verse seven.

Today Pastor Bill continues his overview of the Old Testament Minor Prophets, whose messages had a major impact on Israel, and still have special implications for anyone who calls themselves a Christian today. One of the greatest of these minor prophets was a man named Haggai. If you can, open your Bible and join us in the book of Haggai as we join Pastor Bill for his message entitled “Build the House”.

The pollution of a nation is a terrible thing. We're not talking about air, water, or noise pollution. Although those things are bad, they're not as bad as spiritual pollution. When we are not focused on worshipping and living for God but instead allow other things to crowd Him out of our lives, spiritual decay sets in. That's what happened to Israel, and the Lord used the Prophet Zephaniah to warn them about it. On Today's Hope From the Word broadcast, Pastor Bill Luebkemann examines this message in Zephaniah chapter one. Here's our teacher, and the senior pastor at Calvary Chapel of Marlton, Bill Luebkemann…

What other gods could we have besides the Lord? Plenty. For Israel, there were the Canaanite Baals, nature gods whose worship was a rampage of gluttony, drunkenness, and ritual prostitution. For us there are still those same type of gods today. Gods of Sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll; not to mention Football, Fitness, and Fajitas! Today on Hope From the Word, Pastor Bill Luebkemann will study the book of Zephaniah and a warning about the dangers of hardening our hearts to God. Here's Bill in a study shared at Calvary Chapel of Marlton.

Today on Hope From the Word, Pastor Bill Luebkemann continues his overview of the Old Testament minor prophets. Today we'll complete our look at Habakkuk. Last time, Pastor Bill was showing us that faith is improved through great struggle and that often God will allow things to get worse before He makes them better. And even though it may be difficult to understand at the time, it's for His glory and our good. That's where Pastor Bill begins now, in Habakkuk chapter one.

One of the most common reasons people say they don't believe in God is the problem of evil. People claim they just can't believe in a God who allows evil on earth. And it is perplexing, isn't it? Maybe you yourself have wondered how an all-powerful, loving God could allow such terrible things to occur on earth. Today on Hope from the Word, Pastor Bill Luebkemann will address that question. It turns out, it's a question that's been asked for thousands of years. We're looking at the book of Habakkuk, where the prophet wonders when God is going to step in and deal with wickedness and violence. Let's turn there now and join Pastor Bill.

Hello and welcome to Hope from the Word from Calvary Chapel of Marlton. Pastor Bill Luebkemann is the senior pastor and today he's continuing a series through the minor prophets and wrapping up the book of Nahum. Nahum had good news for the people of Israel. Their oppressors and those who sought to destroy them were themselves going to be destroyed. The lesson we learn in Nahum is one we see throughout the Bible: trust in God, not in your own strength. Here's Pastor Bill.

Today we continue our series through the minor prophets of the Old Testament with a look at the book of Nahum. Nahum had a very important message for the people of Israel, and his message, and the fact that his prophecies turned out to be correct, remind us again of the reliability of God's word. Here's Pastor Bill Luebkemann with a look at the book of Nahum.

Today we wrap up our study in the book of Micah, concentrating on chapter seven. Micah is another of the so-called Minor prophets with a very important message, God will protect His people, if His people will stay faithful to him. It's a good thing for us to keep in mind as well, as we look at Micah, chapter seven. Here's Pastor Bill, beginning in verse eight…

A warm welcome to each of you. Pastor Bill Luebkemann will be with us in just a moment as we present Hope From the Word. We've seen here in our world recently a heavy push for the unification of all religions. Interfaith services are on the rise, and the ecumenical movement is growing in popularity. But, what is it that sets our God, the Lord Jesus Christ, apart from every other so-called god out there? The prophet Micah asked a similar question. “Who is like this God?” Pastor Bill will direct our attention to the uniqueness and goodness of the one and only God here today. Turn if you would to Micah seven as we join Pastor Bill Luebkemann for Hope From the Word…

As many Christians know, there's much more to Jonah than just a fish story. In fact, as we'll find out in today's message from Pastor Bill Luebkemann, Jonah was a lot like many Christians today. They may be firm in their belief, but a little shaky when it comes to following the Lord's will for their lives. Perhaps that describes you? Are you running from God's will? In any case, the life of Jonah and the consequences of his disobedience will serve as a lesson for us all. So, join us and turn in your Bible to Jonah chapter three for today's edition of Hope From the Word with Bill Luebkemann.
