We’re at the tail-end of our study in First John, where we’ve spent considerable time talking about God’s perfect love!  And today we’ll see that if we claim to be a follower of Christ, we must love God and others with this perfect love!  In order to do this, we’ll need some help from the Spirit of God!

Recently we’ve received a really good working definition of love from the apostle John.  After defining love for us, he then describes what God did for us.  With that as a backdrop he now tells us we’re to love one another unconditionally with God’s perfect love. I think you’d agree that is so needed in a world full of hate and evil.

What we’re seeing in the world today is exactly what the apostle John prophetically wrote about in First John chapter four.  He couldn’t be more dead on, because the spirit of God was behind it.  You’re about to hear a warning not to believe and receive every spirit, but to test them.  We’ll learn why we’re to do that and how to do that right now!

About Matt VanderVen

Matt VanderVen is the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Harrisburg – West Shore. Matt and his wife, Lisa, moved from Rochester, NY to Harrisburg, PA in 2014 to begin a simple, line by line teaching through God’s Word on Wednesday evenings.
