Great Rock Church

Pastor Mat Nadworny is the Founding and Lead Pastor at Great Rock Church (GRC), formerly known as Calvary Chapel North Shore, in Danvers, MA. God led Mat to start GRC in 2005 with 10 people who met in his home in Revere, MA. GRC is part of the Calvary Chapel movement, a collection of non-denominational churches with over 2,000 worldwide that focus on expository teaching through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. 

As the ministry grew over the past twenty years, the church has moved from place to place on the North Shore, including a hotel conference room and a storefront location to purchasing a small chapel, which is now our thrift store, to buying 6 acres of land near Rt. 114 and Interstate 95 and began a long journey of constructing the building we worship in Today. The building project lasted 5 years from planning to completion, and GRC opened for worship at 256 Andover St. in December of 2017. Mat regularly teaches 2 Sunday morning services and one mid-week service that meets on Wednesday evenings. The services are focused on the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ through contemporary praise music and expository teaching.

Along with liturgical service, Mat has a vision for community outreach for Boston’s North Shore. GRC offers an addiction-based weekly meeting that is taught from a Christian perspective. In 2012, he pioneered a 6-month residential drug and alcohol discipleship center for men that has produced over 25 graduates. In 2017, he started “Rock Construction,” which helps graduates learn and develop carpentry skills and offers work placement after commencement. The same year, he launched a church thrift store open 6 days a week. He regularly teaches college-level Bible courses that are open to the public. Mat’s radio programs are aired daily on WEZE (590AM) and RENEWFM (103.7 and 102.1) in Boston, and he films morning devotions for adults and kids that are published through the church’s social media channels. Mat has written “40 for 40,” a 40-day guide through the Book of Romans, Philippians, and the Book of Mark.

Mat is committed to helping those in need outside the local community, especially in Haiti. With the GRC leadership team, he established a training program for local Haitian pastors, started a soup kitchen serving 5,000 children in Canaan, a school and an orphanage, and planted six churches, 3 of which are in Haiti.

Mat lives in Boxford, MA, with his wife and five children.
