We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at an attribute given in the form of an extended metaphor— God as a shepherd.  This particular passage is the longest text in the entire Bible depicting God as a shepherd. We will look at it under three headings: 1) A problem (human beings are sheep); 2) A partial but inadequate solution (human shepherds); 3) The ultimate answer (the Good Shepherd). This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on March 20, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The God Who Makes Alive. Scripture: Ezekiel 34:11-17, 23-29. We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. This sermon looks at the love of God, an attribute contemporary people are almost too comfortable with. The love of God is more complicated and complex than you might think.  Looking at an Old Testament and a New Testament text, we will uncover the multidimensionality of God's love.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on March 13, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The God Who Makes Alive. Scripture: Psalm 145:14-20; John 15:9-15. We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. One of God’s attributes is his omnipresence— he’s present everywhere, and we can’t get away from him.  There are three things this psalm tells us about the presence of God: 1) God’s presence is an inescapable fact; 2) His presence is a radical  threat; and 3) His presence is a transforming joy.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 30, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God. Scripture: Psalm 139:1-24. We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. Most of our problems stem from not knowing who God is or forgetting who he is at the moment. One of God’s attributes is that he does not change— this can also be referred to as the immutability of God. We’ll explore this attribute in Psalm 102, looking at what it says about 1) What we are; 2) What we need; and 3) How we can get it.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 23, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God. Scripture: Psalm 102:1-4; 18-28. We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. Most of our problems stem from not knowing who God is or forgetting who he is at the moment. One of God’s attributes is that he is the creator of all things. We’ll explore this attribute in Psalm 8, written by David. We’re going to notice: 1) The wonderful thing David saw; 2) The frightening thing David felt; and 3) The amazing thing David learned.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 16, 2011. We’re looking at the characteristics— also known as the “attributes”— of God according to the Bible. One of God’s attributes is that he is a covenant God— He is a God who makes covenants, and he is a God you can only relate to through covenants.  We will unpack what this means by noting three things: 1) What the covenant is; 2) What the new covenant solves; and 3) How it changes and transforms us.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on January 9, 2011. Series: To Know the Living God; The Majesty of God. Scripture: Jeremiah 31:31-34. In John 17, Jesus is specifically praying for his current and future disciples, and in these verses, we see Jesus’s desire for the world to know that God sent him to save us. In these verses, we’ll see 1) What we most need; 2) How to get it; and 3) What the outcome will be.  This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on June 25, 2017. John 17 is the “great prayer” of Jesus— his prayer for his disciples before he goes to die on the cross. In this prayer, Jesus very directly prays for both his current disciples and his future disciples— the Church. The main thing Jesus asks for is that his disciples be joined in loving unity. This sermon will examine what it means to be united by the love of God in Christ. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on June 18, 2017. Series: Jesus, Mission and Glory: The Lord’s Prayer for His Glory and Ours. Scripture: John 17:20-23. John 17 is the “great prayer” of Jesus. In this message, we will look at Jesus’s prayer for the Church— the disciples in the room with him, but also his future disciples. We are going to look at what Jesus says about the church and what it ought to be— and what we as Christians ought to be.  We will notice four things about the church: 1) It’s crucial; 2) It’s countercultural; 3) It’s inexplicably attractive; and 4) It’s the company of the forgiven. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on May 21, 2017. Series: Jesus, Mission and Glory: The Lord’s Prayer for His Glory and Ours. Scripture: John 17:6-11. About Gospel in Life

Gospel In Life is a ministry that features sermons, books, articles, and resources from Timothy Keller, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and Redeemer City to City. The name reflects our conviction that the gospel changes everything in life. In 1989 Dr. Timothy J. Keller, his wife and three young sons moved to New York City to begin Redeemer Presbyterian Church. He has since become a bestselling author, an influential thinker, and an advocate for ministry in cities and to secular people.

About Tim Keller

Timothy Keller is the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, which he started in 1989 with his wife, Kathy, and three young sons.  For 28 years he led a diverse congregation of young professionals that grew to a weekly attendance of over 5,000.

He is also the Chairman & Co-Founder of Redeemer City to City (CTC), which starts new churches in New York and other global cities, and publishes books and resources for ministry in an urban environment. In 2017 Dr. Keller transitioned to CTC full time to teach and mentor church planters and seminary students through a joint venture with Reformed Theological Seminary's (RTS), the City Ministry Program. He also works with CTC's global affiliates to launch church planting movements.

Dr. Keller’s books, including the New York Times bestselling The Reason for God and The Prodigal God, have sold over 2 million copies and been translated into 25 languages.

Christianity Today has said, “Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians.”

Dr. Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. He previously served as the pastor of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, Virginia, Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and Director of Mercy Ministries for the Presbyterian Church in America.
