Covenant Confusion!

July 25, 2024
We live under a new covenant that carries all kinds of beautiful implications for our new life in Christ. Still, many believers are not aware of the differences between the old and the new.

Greg called in to our radio program to ask if I would highlight the important differences between the old covenant and the new covenant.

In this episode, I share my thoughts. Enjoy!

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)What does it mean to “present yourself approved to God”? Part of the great news of the Gospel is that believers in Christ have moved from death to life. We are now dead to sin and alive to God! But this can lead to some interesting questions:• If we were spiritually dead as a lost person, what part of us died at salvation?• If we died, how are we alive now?• Do we have a human spirit that is distinct from God’s Spirit? In this episode, I share the incredible realities of what happened to your spirit (and nature) at salvation and how receiving the Holy Spirit fundamentally transformed your relationship to the Law and religious rules.Grasping these truths can open up a whole new way of living, so check it out and discover how life in Christ brings freedom – including freedom from sin!We hope you enjoyed this episode. If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. (2 Peter 2:20)Worse off at the end? What does this mean? Who is Peter talking about here? Michael called in with concern about the context of this difficult verse. He wondered if it means we believers can end up losing our salvation.Check out this episode where I share my thoughts on this controversial passage! We hope you enjoyed this episode. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may turn out well for you, and that you may live long on the earth. (Ephesians 6:2-3)Here Paul quotes from the Old Testament Law, instructing the Ephesian children to honor their parents. Why does Paul use the Law? Does this mean that we Christians are still under the moral Law today? This was Jamal’s question when he called in to our program. In this episode, I share the truth about the commonly held idea of Christians being under the moral Law."We hope you enjoyed this episode. Are you grappling with major decisions and feeling uncertain about what God wants you to do? I recently had a caller who shared her fear of following her desires and sought guidance on discerning God’s will. There are plenty of misconceptions about God’s leading, including the damaging belief that you can’t trust your own desires or that God has secret instructions for those who obey Him or search hard enough for His will.In this must-listen episode, I challenge these unhealthy views of God’s guidance. You’ll discover the liberating truth about how God actually works, causing you to want and to do of His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13)!We hope you enjoyed this episode. Tim is a seminary student, and he’s been learning about predestination in his courses lately. In particular, he’s been studying Romans 9 where it talks about God hardening hearts. So does God harden people’s hearts today? Does God pre-arrange who can respond to the Gospel and who can’t?These were Tim’s questions when he called in to our program. In this episode, I share what’s really going on in Romans 9 and what the hardening of hearts actually means for you and me.We hope you enjoyed this episode. “It is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.” (Romans 7:17)“It is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” (Romans 7:20)No longer I who do it? So, is it out of my control? Is it not my responsibility? What do these statements in Romans 7 really mean? This was Chris’ question when he called in to our radio program. In this episode, I share my thoughts on this challenging passage and the life-transforming truth we can take away from it.Enjoy! We hope you enjoyed this episode. Are you ready to challenge conventional beliefs about your nature as a Christian? It’s time to dive deep into the provocative question of whether you’re truly good.“Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.” This statement by Jesus in Mark 10 has been used to tell believers they’re bad, not good. But is that really what Jesus meant? In this episode, I unpack why it’s absolute nonsense to say Christians are still bad after being born again. The truth of the Gospel is far more inspiring and liberating than you may have ever imagined.Listen and uncover the shocking truth from Scripture about your nature as a believer. It will help you embrace and celebrate that you’re unequivocally good!We hope you enjoyed this episode.
