One group says the Bible is a book about love, mercy, and kindness. They think of the story of the Good Samaritan and of Jesus telling us to turn the other cheek. So how could anyone think the Bible prevents a tolerant society? But for another group, the Bible is far from tolerant. There’s the conquest of Canaan. There’s Elijah killing Baal’s prophets by his own hand. And in the New Testament, Jesus talks often about hell. That’s not tolerant. What then can we say in answer to this question? Whereas we tend to feel that absolute power corrupts absolutely, the Bible teaches that our corruption comes from within. The way to bring healing to our situation is to willingly and joyfully submit to the governing authority of God Himself.

Samson is a musclebound warrior who also spouts poetry. He's an extraordinary character, and God uses him in extraordinary ways. That's the great lesson of Samson.

Suffering, while originally caused by sin and therefore bad, is nonetheless something that God frequently uses. We all are in pain at times, and we can think that God doesn't understand or has forgotten us. And yet, we will find an answer to this in Samson's story.

Samson, with all his brilliance, becomes a symbol for all that's wrong with modern life. Is bigger necessarily better? Our culture says that a bigger house, car, salary, church, or ministry is always better, but is that how we should assess what is truly valuable? In this message we look at real meaning and real value.
