AND I KNOW HE WATCHES ME

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you."  Psalm 32:8

"For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He watches all his paths."  Proverbs 5:21

Last Sunday, I was privileged to speak at my pastor friend’s church in Houston.  After the service, Debbie was helping people at our book table.  As always, she was very kind, gracious, and welcoming to all who came by for a signed book.

Unbeknownst to Debbie, there was a lady present who was watching her.  She wanted to see how Debbie interacted with the people.  Was she kind to everyone?  Was she helpful to all?  Was she still pleasant and joyful even when seemingly no one was around?  Was she real and genuine … or was she just performing for the crowd?  (I am happy to report that Debbie passed the “watch” test with flying colors.)

NO ONE IS WATCHING?

Isn’t it amazing how different we are prone to act when we think no one is watching?  The tendency to whine, to gripe, to complain, to snap at our spouse and kids, to shirk responsibility, and to get in the flesh is much greater in settings of perceived seclusion and anonymity, isn’t it?  If you know you are being watched, you are on your best behavior.

Well, here is the truth: You are always being watched by the Lord.  And that has both good and bad ramifications.

1.  “Amen! He loves me so much that he doesn’t take His eyes off me!”  I mean, how cool is that!?  When I was a kid, I loved to have my mom and dad watch me when I rode my bike, shot the basketball, or jumped off the diving board.  I loved for them to be proud of me.  Well, God is proud of His children!  He watches us always because He doesn’t want to miss anything His sons and daughters do.  He wants to be there with us every step of the way.  His eye is always upon us to guide us and show us the way we are to walk.

2.  “Oh, me!  He sees all my acts of rebellion and disobedience.”  It is one thing to sin in secret, but to sin openly before the Lord is another matter.  Newsflash: Nothing is done in secret.  “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3).  He knows your sinful thoughts and sees every sinful deed.  Remember that the next time you are tempted to cheat, to lie, to lust, or to do something you know is dishonoring to the Lord.  He is with you, and He is watching you.

SOMETHING TO PONDER

How differently would you live your life if you lived 24/7 with Jesus?  Well, you do.  Jesus lives in every Christian through His Spirit.  He goes everywhere you go and sees everything you see.  So, make it your practice to live in conscience of His presence and committed to His glory.

 Love,
