According to U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black, prayer is the only thing that people of faith are instructed in Scripture to do constantly. The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray continually.” Today on Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson talks with Rev. Black, author of Make Your Voice Heard in Heaven: How to Pray with Power, about the access we have to God through prayer and the unfathomable love our Creator has for each one of His children. Chaplain Black explains that prayer is the breath of the soul.

Cynthia Tobias is a national speaker and a best-selling author of numerous books, including You Can't Make Me, The Way They Learn, Every Child Can Succeed, and Reclaiming Education. She has spent over thirty years in private practice, eight years teaching high school, and six years in law enforcement. Cynthia has been a featured guest on radio broadcasts and television networks nationwide. She received her B.A. at Northwest Nazarene University, her master’s degree at Seattle Pacific University, and an honorary doctorate from Northwest Nazarene University. Cynthia is the mother of twin sons, and she and her husband, Jack, reside in Washington state.

Pastor Duane Miller was forced to take a sabbatical for three years when a virus damaged his vocal cords, prohibiting him from talking above a whisper. On today's classic edition of Family Talk, you will hear the moment when God restored Duane's voice, which was captured in an audio recording of him teaching a Sunday School class. Ironically, he had just read Psalm 103:4 which says, God “redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion." After three years in the pit, God crowned Duane with compassion, prompting him to say three words with his revitalized voice: "Thank you, Lord!" Founded in 2010 by Dr. James Dobson, the ministry promotes and teaches biblical principles that support marriage, family, and child-development. About Dr. James Dobson

Dr. James Dobson is the Founder and President of Family Talk, a nonprofit organization that produces his radio program, "Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk." He is the author of more than 30 books dedicated to the preservation of the family, including The New Dare to Discipline, Love for a Lifetime, Life on the Edge, Love Must Be Tough, The New Strong-Willed Child, When God Doesn't Make Sense, Bringing Up Boys, Marriage Under Fire, Bringing Up Girls, Head Over Heels and, most recently, Your Legacy: The Greatest Gift.


Dr. Dobson served as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine for 14 years and on the attending staff of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for 17 years. He has been active in governmental affairs and has advised five U.S. presidents on family matters. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (1967) in the field of child development. He holds 17 honorary doctoral degrees, and was inducted in 2008 into The National Radio Hall of Fame. Dr. Dobson recently received the following awards: Winston Churchill Lifetime Achievement Award from the Faith & Freedom Coalition (2017), Daniel Award from AZ Christian University (2016), and the Defender of Life Award from the Justice Foundation (2015).


Dr. Dobson is married to Shirley and they have two grown children, Danae and Ryan, and two grandchildren. The Dobsons reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
