The Coming King, Part 1

While rulers of the kingdoms of the world rage against the Lord and his rule, God places his King on the throne of his kingdom. The Lord promises blessing for all who take refuge in him. Jesus is God’s true and universal King, and we must fear him, honour him, and seek refuge in him.

(This will include the hard work of restoring a fallen brother.) And as people made free through Jesus, we are to boast exclusively in the cross of Christ, and not in law-keeping.

The Psalms of ascents speak of the journey of the people of God as they go up to Jerusalem to enjoy the Lord’s presence in his temple. You and I are not on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, of course, but you and I today know what it is to be on a journey to the place of God’s presence—we know what it is to be pilgrims and travellers, longing for our final destination—weary from the journey, anxious to arrive.
