What Time Is It? part 1

January 17, 2025

The Church in Rome had dosed off, in a manner of speaking, so the apostle Paul sends a letter and sounds the alarm. Too many Christians today are like the church in Rome - lackadaisical in their walk with God, and not fine tuning their anticipation of the Lord’s return.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. That commandment from Jesus has been tinkered with and redefined to the point it’s lost it’s meaning - and thus it’s impact in our lives. The need to restore it’s full meaning and force is great! That’s our goal today on The Dwelling Place, as we study Romans thirteen.

Today we enter into a discussion about the Christian and government.  We arrive at chapter thirteen of Romans on this day, as we continue making our way verse by verse through this remarkable epistle.  Pastor Al Pittman will show us how we are to live under any government, and what our response to it is to be.

With all the disharmony in the world and even in the Church - is there any answer? Can we live in harmony? We certainly can, but only by the power of God’s love. So what gets in the way of us exploiting God’s power to love one another?

Last time we were together we covered a good portion of chapter twelve, and we were encouraged to be a healthy body of believers.  Right on the heels of that admonition, the apostle Paul goes on to speak about loving without hypocrisy, and abhorring what is evil.  Pastor Al will show us today just how important it is that we displayed Godly love to not only one another, but to those who persecute us as well.

There’s probably no muscle that is harder to control than the tongue.  We’ve all experienced saying something that later we wished we hadn’t... whether it be a curse word, or something that hurt another a great deal.  It’s amazing how such a small part of the body can have such a large impact.  No wonder James likens it to a fire!  Let’s see now how we can use it for good rather than evil.

Pastor Al Pittman is leading a study of Romans right now, and today underscores chapter twelve and verses three through nine.  Getting along with each other is what this section of Romans is all about. Paul felt fellowship and love was so important that he included it in several of his letters. The body of Christ should be a body of love and respect.

We’ve been studying the Book of Romans lately and we’ll be zeroing in on chapter twelve today. In this chapter, Paul not only teaches us how to effectively live out our faith in a world that is often hostile to the Gospel message, but he also provides us with some great insight into how to interact with one another as fellow believers in the body of Christ.

Our pastor and teacher, Al Pittman, takes us to the Book of Romans today, and we find ourselves in chapter twelve. As we read Paul’s words to the Christians in Rome, we’ll uncover the truth about how to be perfected in Christ and discover God’s will for our lives along the way.

Many teachers today make the mistake of painting a picture of Christianity that leads people to believe that life will be a bed of roses if they would just give their lives to Christ. Unfortunately, when the first trial comes - as they most certainly will - the new believer often finds discouragement and feelings of abandonment. On today’s Dwelling Place, we’ll see the apostle Paul working to dispel this notion in the Book of Romans.
