The Curse Is Broken part 1

June 24, 2024

Really the law of God has no power to prevent sin - or redeem the sinner. Only grace can do that. That’s our theme on today’s The Dwelling Place with pastor Al Pittman.  The churches in Galatia had been deceived by false teachers, who had convinced them that they could be saved by works rather than grace. Let’s head over to Galatians chapter three and find out what the Apostle Paul had to say on this important issue.

Everyone comes into the world as a baby but we mature - some faster than others!. The same is true spiritually. And too many in the Church have not matured. As we’ll hear today, part of the problem is our low view of the Bible - that’s why there is such a disinterest in the things of God. But the bible is the very word of God - when the bible speaks, God speaks. And if the bible is the very word of God then how should we respond? We should receive it and welcome it - just like the Thessalonians did.

Our problem with perfection was solved by Jesus. He paid the price to perfect us before a holy and perfect God. Isn’t that awesome? However, there are some people who still try to get to heaven by being “perfect”. It simply won’t work. The people of Galatia had a similar issue. They thought following rules was the path to heaven.

as we continue in Galatians one today, we are going to continue to see Paul’s angry reaction to his beloved friends in Galatia turning to a false gospel. Paul had taught them a gospel based on the grace of God, and the Galatians had turned to a gospel of works. Paul was thoroughly ticked!

Today we begin a series in Paul’s letter to the Galatian church. The underlying theme of this series is going to be one word - grace. The churches in Galatia had strayed away from the truths Paul had taught them when the church was formed. Salvation through grace was the corner stone, and the Galatians had listened to the wrong teachers after Paul left, and now they believed they had to work for their salvation.

Today we bring you Al’s final message in his verse by verse series through Colossians. If you summed up this letter, it would be a loving warning to the church of Colossi that they had strayed from the true gospel and were more interested in philosophy and “higher thought” than  the real message of repentance and salvation through Christ. Sound familiar? That’s what’s so great about God’s word - it’s as relevant today as it was when these words were written.

Have you ever had that feeling that someone was watching you? Well, if you’re a Christian, that feeling is legitimate, because the world is watching. We have an awesome responsibility as believers to live a pure and holy life - so the world will see the difference Christ has made in our lives.

Today, as we continue our series through Colossians, as we look at chapter four, verses two through four. Here, the apostle Paul gives some sage advice about prayer. Prayer is a wonderful gift from God, but it’s wasted by far too many Christians. Can your prayer life be described as “vigilant”?
