Liberty In Grace part 1

June 26, 2024

When God laid it on the heart of George Mueller to build orphanages in Bristol, England, he had only two shillings to call his own.  Without making his needs known to anyone but God, over seven million dollars were sent to him for the building and maintenance of the homes.  Now there was a man who not only was saved by faith, but also walked and lived by faith. Today, Pastor Al Pittman will urge us to do likewise.  Galatians chapter four will be our text for today’s teaching.

The law of God also has a purpose, and that is to reveal our sin and point us to Christ.  If we look at God’s law as a set of rules to follow in oder to get to heaven, we miss then point. We cannot obey the law perfectly, and the law points that out to us, so we must turn to faith in Christ for our salvation. Today on The Dwelling Place Pastor Al Pittman will elaborate as he continues his study of Galatians.  We’ll be in chapter three on this day, beginning in verse twenty-two.

Really the law of God has no power to prevent sin - or redeem the sinner. Only grace can do that. That’s our theme on today’s The Dwelling Place with pastor Al Pittman.  The churches in Galatia had been deceived by false teachers, who had convinced them that they could be saved by works rather than grace. Let’s head over to Galatians chapter three and find out what the Apostle Paul had to say on this important issue.

Everyone comes into the world as a baby but we mature - some faster than others!. The same is true spiritually. And too many in the Church have not matured. As we’ll hear today, part of the problem is our low view of the Bible - that’s why there is such a disinterest in the things of God. But the bible is the very word of God - when the bible speaks, God speaks. And if the bible is the very word of God then how should we respond? We should receive it and welcome it - just like the Thessalonians did.

Our problem with perfection was solved by Jesus. He paid the price to perfect us before a holy and perfect God. Isn’t that awesome? However, there are some people who still try to get to heaven by being “perfect”. It simply won’t work. The people of Galatia had a similar issue. They thought following rules was the path to heaven.

We all need someone in our lives who is not afraid to “tell it like it is”. The Galatians had a friend like that, and his name was Paul. We’ll see just what he had to say to the Galatians today on The Dwelling Place.

Pastor Al Pittman is currently taking us through the book of Galatians - a letter written by Paul to a group of believers who had been seriously misled by false teachers. They had been taught by Paul that the gospel message was for Jews and Gentiles alike, but they had then been misled into believing that the gentiles were disqualified.

The Galatians talked a good game, but they actually had let false teaching and bigotry creep into their midst, and were preaching a gospel that contradicted the truth. Pastor Al is going to share some frank words about racism today. In today’s American Christian church, we tend to sweep racism under the carpet and pretend it doesn’t exist. Well, unfortunately, it does.

Pastor Al Pittman will underscore the gospel of grace alone through faith alone on today’s broadcast as part of our continuing study of Galatians. We’ve just begun a look at chapter two, where we read Paul’s passionate defense of the gospel.

Pastor Al continues his new series in First Thessalonians as we continue looking at the first verses of chapter two in this challenging and passionate letter Paul wrote to the people of Thessalonica.

The grace of God is definitely something to be thankful for, and grace is the topic as we continue Al’s new series in Galatians. As we begin a look at chapter two today, Paul has set the stage for his theme in this letter. The churches in Galatia had fallen victim to false teaching. Of course, there was some backlash, but here in chapter two, Paul defends his authority to preach the gospel, and he defends the gospel message as well.
