Here Comes the Judge part 1

In this day of do whatever you please and whatever feels good to you, people don’t like to hear about judgment. But the student of the Bible cannot escape the truth that judgment day is on the horizon. We have a merciful and loving God...there’s no debating that fact. But He’s also one day going to judge the world, and when you enter that heavenly courtroom, you definitely want Jesus on your side!

Our study through the Psalms takes us to Psalms seventy-nine and eighty today. Asaph wrote these Psalms as a lament for his nation's disobedience, and also to God’s loving kindness despite His people’s disobedience. It’s a history lesson, and at the same time, a lesson on God’s patience.

Psalm seventy-nine speaks extensively about all the benefits of knowing God and knowing and following His precepts.

Are you a history buff? There are a lot of them around. Apparently Asaph was a history buff as well, because in Psalm seventy-eight, he gives us a review of the history of Israel. He does this to point out just how patient and loving God is toward man, despite our history of disobedience.

What defines an authentic Christian? Well, tools are important, knowing how to use them is important, and our promise of eternal life is a kind of diploma. When you find yourself in times of trouble, do you remember to seek the Lord’s guidance? Is it the first thing you think to do? That’s a real mark of an authentic Christian. Our scripture text for today’s program is Psalm seventy-eight.

Pastor Al begins a study today in Psalm seventy-eight. It’s a Psalm of Asaph that expresses frustration with God’s people, as they continually show an inability to trust God, despite the evidence before them. Obviously, this is a message that is very relevant today. We see it all around us - the obvious evidence of God’s presence, and the obvious rejection of that evidence.

It isn’t always easy to find - especially in Washington D.C., because the people who tell us they’re trustworthy often are lying when they tell us!
