These are stressful days we live in. Social upheaval, high gas prices, a toxic political environment. I think we could all use a little comfort today, and comfort for perilous times is always found in God’s Word. We’re nearing the end of pastor Al’s series in Ecclesiastes, and today he’ll share a very timely message on the sovereignty of God, and some valuable insights for those times when life doesn’t seem fair.

Pastor Al Pittman continues his series through Ecclesiastes today, and we’ll join him in just a moment in chapter eight.  In this chapter, Solomon talks about dealing with the authorities in our lives. We all have them. Some are nice, and some …. well not so much. How should we treat them?

It’s been said that there are two things you should never discuss with people: Religion and politics.  Well, Solomon certainly didn’t consider those subjects too hot to handle, and of course neither does God.  Today we consider our relationship to those in authority.  Should we support them no matter what, or is there a point in which we draw the line and disobey?

Pastor Al Pittman has been leading us verse by verse through First Thessalonians, a great letter full of encouragement in how to live the Christian life. Having finished chapter three last time, we now move into chapter four, which deals with the subject of how to please God.

t’s instructive for us to understand where the writer of this book was coming from. Solomon was a rich and important man, yet he wondered out loud what the point of life really was. He was confused, lonely, empty - much like many people today. We’re going to look at Ecclesiastes chapter seven today as we explore several suggestions guaranteed to improve your life! When you need to repair your car, you take it to an expert mechanic. When your life needs repair,  take it to the one who created you - God!

Today we’ll continue Al’s verse by verse study through the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. In chapter six, Solomon explores the futility of life - that is, the futility of wrapping our happiness around material things. Can we really find happiness and fulfillment in cars, homes and bags of money?

If a life is not centered on the pursuit of God... well we’ll only have misery to look forward to. However, when our chief aim is to please the Lord and make Him the passion of our life, we’ll have a satisfied soul. A lot of people are seeking satisfaction in all the wrong places today.

Two is greater than one!  We learned that from our early days in Math class, but it seems that we’ve forgotten that principle when applying it to how we go about our lives.  Today we’ll again be in Ecclesiastes chapter four, and learn how two are better than one!

Today on The Dwelling Place we’ll continue to hear some powerful reflections from one of the wealthiest and powerful men of all time, and the conclusions regarding life that he reached, with God’s prompting.  It sure speaks volumes to us today. Solomon had everything a person could want, materially, yet he felt empty. Pastor Al Pittman is developing his new verse by verse study of Ecclesiastes, and on this day we enter chapter four.

In our educational system, the way we have it set up now, students are given tests to measure where they’re at.  Without the test, it’s not so easy to gauge progress.  Well God believes in using tests as well, and through them He reveals what we’re really like. There are good reasons for them, and we’ll see that in a moment.
