If a life is not centered on the pursuit of God... well we’ll only have misery to look forward to. However, when our chief aim is to please the Lord and make Him the passion of our life, we’ll have a satisfied soul. A lot of people are seeking satisfaction in all the wrong places today.

Two is greater than one! We learned that from our early days in Math class, but it seems that we’ve forgotten that principle when applying it to how we go about our lives. Today we’ll again be in Ecclesiastes chapter four, and learn how two are better than one!

Today on The Dwelling Place we’ll continue to hear some powerful reflections from one of the wealthiest and powerful men of all time, and the conclusions regarding life that he reached, with God’s prompting. It sure speaks volumes to us today. Solomon had everything a person could want, materially, yet he felt empty. Pastor Al Pittman is developing his new verse by verse study of Ecclesiastes, and on this day we enter chapter four.

In our educational system, the way we have it set up now, students are given tests to measure where they’re at. Without the test, it’s not so easy to gauge progress. Well God believes in using tests as well, and through them He reveals what we’re really like. There are good reasons for them, and we’ll see that in a moment.

Our lives revolve around time. Could you imagine trying to navigate through life without it? When would we arrive at work, or know when to meet someone, or schedule an appointment without the time? God is also very concerned about time, and as we’ll see today there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

Many people today wonder if God is really in control! So is He? Ecclesiastes makes it clear that God is sovereign and that everything under His control has its season. God’s timing is perfect - ours isn’t. So shouldn’t we try to exercise patience and wait for God to act in our lives and show us the way? Sounds good to me, and it sounded good to King Solomon.

Tiday we again open our Bibles to the book of Ecclesiastes, chapter two. This chapter can be capsulated in two facts: The pursuit of pleasure and possession is futile, and true satisfaction is found in a relationship with Christ. Here we have King Solomon, who had everything a man could want materially, and yet he felt empty and unfulfilled. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
