About Discover the Word
About Mart DeHaan, Elisa Morgan, Bill Crowder, Brian Hettinga and Daniel Ryan Day
Bill Crowder joined the Our Daily Bread Ministries staff after more than 20 years as a pastor. As vice president of teaching content, Bill works closely with Mart DeHaan providing evaluation of Our Daily Bread’s biblical content for various ministry efforts. Additionally, Bill spends much of his time in a Bible-conference ministry around the world, serving Our Daily Bread offices and their outreach to local communities. He is a contributing writer for the Our Daily Bread devotional, has written many Bible study booklets for Our Daily Bread’s Discovery Series, and has published several books with Discovery House Publishers. Bill has also spent the last several years as the on-air teaching chaplain for Our Daily Bread’s weekly national radio program Sport.org. Bill and his wife, Marlene, have five adult children and several grandchildren. To relax, Bill enjoys playing golf whenever possible and follows sports, especially the English Premier League’s Liverpool Football Club.
Elisa Morgan was named by Christianity Today as one of the top fifty women influencing today’s church and culture and is one of today’s most sought-after authors, speakers, and leaders. She has authored over fifteen books on mothering, spiritual formation, and evangelism, including The Beauty of Broken, She Did What She Could and The NIV Mom’s Devotional Bible. She currently authors a blog under the title, Really. In fall of 2015, her newest book will release: Hello, Beauty Full: Seeing Yourself as God Sees You. For twenty years, Elisa Morgan served as CEO of MOPS International (www.mops.org). Elisa is married to Evan (senior vice president of global ministry efforts for Our Daily Bread Ministries) and has two grown children and two grandchildren who live near her in Denver, Colorado. Wilson and Darla, her two Rottweilers, take her on walks in the open space behind her house.
Mart DeHaan is the grandson of Our Daily Bread founder, Dr. M. R. DeHaan, and the son of former president Richard W. DeHaan.
Having served at Our Daily Bread Ministries for over 35 years, Mart is heard regularly on the Discover the Word radio program and seen on Day of Discovery television. Mart often explores the Bible lands on the Day of Discovery television program, leading viewers through the places where Jesus walked and brings the stories and message of the Bible to life. Mart is also a contributing writer for the Our Daily Bread devotional, the Discovery Series booklets, and a monthly column and blog on timely issues called “Been Thinking About”. He and his wife, Diane, have two adult children. Mart enjoys spending time outdoors, whether fishing or playing golf.
Brian Hettinga has been in broadcasting for over 30 years. His first “real job” when he got his driver’s license at age 16 was working nights and weekends at a Christian station in northern Wisconsin (WRVM). Brian graduated from Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music in 1981 and stayed to coach basketball and serve as the Program Director at the school’s radio station for a number of years. He has been with Our Daily Bread Ministries for over 20 years, working with several programs including Discover the Word, Sports Spectrum, Sounds of the Times, and Campus Journal. Brian and his wife Kim have been married since 1982 and have three children. He still enjoys playing basketball and golf.
Daniel Ryan Day is a podcaster, writer, speaker, blogger, husband, and father whose insights bring a fresh voice to Discover the Word. He’s authored Ten Days Without, a book that raises awareness for social needs around the world, and What’s Next, which offers hope and practical wisdom for readers who are struggling to figure out their next step in their education, career, or ministry.
Daniel has spoken at many events, including non-profit staff retreats, conferences, and high school spiritual retreats, among others. He holds a Master’s Degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and is the Senior Producer and Editor of Digital Content at Our Daily Bread Ministries. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Rebecca, and they have three kiddos. He is often found in the studio noodling around on the keyboard and playing with special effects.
