June 6, 2024 – Holy, Holy, Holy, The Lord God Almighty
Romans 5:6-9
Sermon: 1970 The God-Man, Our Mediator, Part 1
Pray Over This
“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”
Romans 5:6-9
Ponder This
God’s love is infinite, matchless, measureless, and glorious. I do not diminish the love of God. But if you had to give one word that would characterize God, it would be holy. God is holy. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of hosts.
How can you bring a holy God and sinful people together? That’s what the Book of Job is about—not only why do bad things happen to good people, but how can good things happen to bad people? How can we get right with God? Man cannot lift himself to God because he’s sinful and God will not lower Himself to man because God is holy. That is the problem. That is why it is so miraculous that Christ died for us. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
- What kind of good works do we try to impress God with?
- Why is it important to remember God’s holiness and not just His love as we ponder His character?
Practice This
Sit and consider how holy God is. Thank Him for crossing the chasm of sin to give you reconciliation with Him.
