February 4, 2024 – Thinking and Doing According to the Word
Deuteronomy 6:8-9
Sermon: 1490 A Future for the Family Is Promised
Pray Over This
“You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Deuteronomy 6:8-9
Ponder This
Be careful what you say. Talk about the Word of God. Apply the Bible to life situations and teach the Word of God conspicuously. Conspicuously means in a clearly visible way. The Jews had little boxes they call phylacteries, and they would tie a portion of the Word of God to their hands and put some right between their eyes, on their foreheads. They took this literally. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but I think there’s a far deeper meaning. The Word of God between your eyes means whatever you think is to be controlled by the Word of God. The Word of God on your hand means whatever you do is to be controlled by the Word of God.
Simply put, the Word of God is to be very evident in your life. Verse 9 says, “You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Your house ought to have scriptural mottos. The Word of God is to impact everything—the atmosphere of your home, the way you interact in a hard conversation, the way you give generously. It is to always be on your mind and in your hand.
- What is an area of your life that may not point to Jesus?
- Do you desire to be mindful of God’s Word? If so, how is that evident in your life? If not, what needs to change?
