The Most Complex Structure
Psalm 111:10
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
What is the most complex structure in the universe? I'll give you a hint: it weighs only a few pounds, and you own one.
The most complex structure in the universe is the human brain. It has so many interconnections within it that if it evolved, its evolution – even over billions of years – would be easy to measure. The fact that there is no hint that the brain is evolving is a good argument against evolution.
Intelligence is not what sets humans apart from animals. Rather, it is the fact that we were made in the image of God. The Clark's nutcracker, a small bird found in the American southwest, has an incredible memory. It can store up to 30,000 seeds for winter food in different locations. Over the winter months, it will remember where the seeds are stored in all these thousands of locations so it doesn't run out of food.
It is calculated that a human brain can store up to 100 trillion bits of information. The most powerful supercomputer today can't store even 1/10th of one percent of that. That is not to say that the proper use of our thinking abilities can happen without helpful instruction. In fact, your brain's manufacturer, God, has provided just such a manual in His holy Word. And just like a sophisticated computer, we all risk ruining our thinking abilities if we operate our brains without our manufacturer's helpful instructions.
Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You for my brain and its wonderful abilities. Help me in my use of Your Word so that Your Spirit may instruct me in true wisdom and the right use of my brain in Your service. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
