A Life of Hope

August 19, 2024

In our lifetime, we have seen remarkable developments in the field of medicine. Doctors can now successfully treat diseases and injuries that would have been fatal 50 or 100 years ago. But despite our extraordinary advances in health sciences and medical technology, the mortlaity rate for every member of our human race is still 100%. How can you face the grim certainty of physical death with hope, peace, and assurance?

Those who are in Christ have been justified before God. But salvation means much more; it means that we are sanctified, that God actually leads us into holiness. As Michael Allen and company explain, our holiness is carried out in the present work of our sovereign, loving God. In Christ we are given life, not simply in name, but in fact. Praise the Lord, who delivers His children through every weakness. Though you struggle with sin, do not be discouraged; it is God who works in you, "both to will and to work for his good pleasure" (Phil. 2:13).

The priests of the Old Testament were holy men with a holy calling. They were servants of God, offering sacrifices to Him for the entire nation of Israel day and night. They had the high privilege of entering into the Holy Place were God was. They wore sacred and beautiful garments. But they weren’t perfect. They were still sinners -- except for One. And this Priest has offered the perfect and final sacrifice.

At the beginning of chapter two, we read about the church in Ephesus, known for their hard work, perseverance, and discernment, yet warned for having forsaken their first love. Hear the call to guard, above all other things, our flame of love for Christ on Hear the Word of God.

Many people today say that they want to know God. But what there really interested in is what God can do for them. They’ve got a lot of questions they’d like him to answer, problems they’d like him to solve, and blessing they’d like him to give. But this is not how God operates. God is holy, we’re not, and before anything else happens, something has to be done about our sin.

The issue of divine healing seems to be much more compiicated in our day than in the time of Christ. People came to Jesus with all manner of diseases and afflictions and he healed them, but today contradictory teaching and unbiblical notions have created confusion about this important subject. What does the Bible say to believers today about divine healing?
