If you’re a believer in Christ you no doubt have a desire to grow and mature in your walk with the Lord.  But how does real and lasting change occur?  While we can’t change ourselves through determination or our own strength, the Holy Spirt can do the work from the inside out. Our teacher pastor Damian Kyle opens Romans chapter eight, where we learn of the changing power of the Holy Spirit at work in the believer.

We’re going to resume pastor Damian Kyle’s study of Acts, as we look at chapter seventeen once again.  The scene shifts to Athens today.  As Paul the apostle looks around, he sees the city full of idols, and so he begins presenting just what they needed to hear... the Gospel message!  And the Lord gives us many opportunities to do the same if we’re open and willing.

Many who would characterize themselves as New Testament believers are still living under the Old Testament law. They’re still trying to live up to a standard that is unattainable, instead of recognizing the law was intended to show us we can’t keep it. And we need a Savior who not only can save guilty sinners but also bring about holiness in our lives.  Today on According to the Scriptures we’ll recognize this tendency we have so we don’t miss out on the true sanctifying work of Jesus!

Corrie Ten Boom once said, “It’s only after human effort has done its very best and failed that God’s power is free to work.” A comfort to some and a challenge to others. But in both cases, it raises the issue of sanctification and it also raises the question, “How then is it accomplished?” We’ll get some encouraging answers today on According to the Scriptures with Damian Kyle. We’ll find those answers in Roman chapter seven where we’ll discover not only the limits of human ability, but also the limits of the law of God.

According to the Scriptures is the radio ministry of Calvary Chapel Modesto with Pastor Damian Kyle. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 says, “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

About Damian Kyle

Damian Kyle committed his life to the Lord in 1980 at Calvary Chapel Napa California at the age of 25. He had previously been employed as a cable splicer with the phone company. His family moved from Napa to Modesto in June of 1985 to plant a Calvary Chapel with the blessing of their home church. He now serves as the pastor of Calvary Chapel in Modesto, California.
