When you hear God will save us simply on the basis of faith, you might be thinking that sounds too good to be true. But instead of dismissing this assertion right off the bat, it would be wise to look into it.  We’ll do just that today on According to the Scriptures with pastor Damian Kyle.  Our source of information is the reliable and time tested book of Romans. It’s there in chapter four we learn that salvation is by grace through faith and not of works!

You might find it easy to praise the Lord in church on Sunday when all is well, but what about in a jail cell, and you’re there for being faithful to God’s calling on your life?  That’s the place we find Paul and Silas in Acts sixteen.  While we might expect them to be moaning and groaning about the circumstances they find themselves in, they were actually praying and singing hymns to God!  Today on According to the Scriptures we’ll see how we can follow their lead, next time we find ourselves in a trial similar to this dungeon in Philippi.

The book of Romans  tells us why the world is broken.  In a word, it’s sin. But it also tells of the remedy – Jesus who died for our sins and will fix those who believe in Him. Romans chapter four illustrates this glorious truth.

Don’t you love a good testimony of what God has done in a human life?  It can really impact us in a great way.  Every Christian has one that’s worth sharing.  And today on According to the Scriptures we’ll hear the record of the salvation of three people who were very different.  First up is Lydia, who reminds us even so called good people need to be saved.

As we return to the book of Romans we’ll learn of the risk in trusting in the law to save.  The privileged Jew didn’t live up to their privilege and consequently brought reproach on God’s name. It’s a grave error – you definitely want to avoid.

You may have had a teacher in school that would grade using a class curve, but God doesn’t judge that way!  Some are under the impression that if they do more good than bad, or are better than their neighbor down the street, God will accept that.  But the book of Romans establishes, we’re all guilty sinners before a holy God, and salvation is by grace and not merit.
