Turning the World Right Side Up Part 1

February 26, 2025

Today we’ll resume our study in Acts with a look at chapter seventeen, and how the ministry of Paul and Barnabas and friends was turning the world upside down! Or I should say turning it right side up! This message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ was controversial to say the least, but God was saving a lot of souls! Today’s mixed up world could use a good dose of the pure gospel truth, don’t you think?

The Case for Easter by Lee Strobel

You might think of it as an investigation into Christ’s death and resurrection, that answers a few key questions. Was Jesus’ death a sham? Was his tomb really empty? Was He seen alive after his death on the cross? This would be a great resource to share around Easter time.

You might find it easy to praise the Lord in church on Sunday when all is well, but what about in a jail cell, and you’re there for being faithful to God’s calling on your life?  Well that’s the place we find Paul and Silas in Acts sixteen.  While we might expect them to be moaning and groaning about the circumstances they find themselves in, they were actually praying and singing hymns to God!  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll see how we can follow their lead, next time we find ourselves in a trial similar to this dungeon in Philippi.

We’ve all experienced closed doors, and it can be hard to handle.  Maybe you didn’t get into the school of your dreams, or got passed over for a job you really wanted.  But as we’ll learn today on Abounding Grace, those closed doors can lead to incredible blessings. We’ll take you to Acts chapter sixteen and observe how the Holy Spirit led Paul and his missionary team.  It’ll prove to be valuable instruction as we try to make sense of those inevitable closed doors.

They are three of the hardest words for many to say, but some of the most powerful when you do say and mean them…. “I forgive you!”  Why do we have such a hard time forgiving someone else, especially in light of all that God has forgiven us of?  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll discover how to deal with the wrongs in our lives and find the freedom in forgiveness.

One of the most frequently asked questions by Christians is, “What is God’s will for my life?”  Maybe you’re trying to decide if a move across the country is in the will of God, or the person you’re dating is the one for you to marry?  Today pastor Ed Taylor will explain how the Holy Spirit leads our lives.  At times He may close some doors like He did for Paul and his missionary team.

No doubt you’ve had this happen to you… you’re absolutely confident God has called you to accept a job, or move somewhere, or go talk to someone… and then suddenly the door slams shut.  The Lord then changes your direction and you’re left wondering what to do next. Did you really hear God correctly? Sound familiar?  That’s what happened to the apostle Paul in the section of Scripture we’ll look at today on Abounding Grace.  So what do you do and think next time that happens to you?

When we’re not seeing eye to eye with another person, or they hurt or offend us, it can often lead to bitterness or division!  But there’s a better way to handle these conflicts when they arise, and the Bible lays out the roadmap to conflict resolution!  It all starts with humility!

Been in a disagreement or conflict recently?  We all have them from time to time, so it becomes necessary to learn how to handle them biblically.  And we’ll set out to do just that today on Abounding Grace as we get back into Acts chapter fifteen.  This will certainly help you, the next time you’re not seeing eye to eye with another person!

We’ll have disagreements and conflicts from time to time.   Whether it’s with our spouse, coworker or someone in the church.  And sometimes it can even get rather heated!  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll observe a disagreement between Paul and Barnabus.  They had a much different perspective on the way things should go, and you’ll no doubt be able to relate on some level!  Pastor Ed Taylor will point out that sometimes it’s best to just depart as friends, like they did.

Today on Abounding Grace we’ll learn what happens when a person sins and then repents!  God forgives them, and so should we.  Pastor Ed Taylor encourages us in that direction through today’s message based on Second Corinthians two.

We’ve all had our fair share of disagreements with others, and sometimes it can even lead to a parting of the ways… like it did for a couple of guys we’ll meet up with today on Abounding Grace.  Pastor Ed Taylor has a look into a particular disagreement found in Acts chapter fifteen.  It’s between Paul and Barnabus, concerning John Mark.  Pastor Ed will relate all of this to the conflicts we so often have, even among Christians.
