Pastor Ed Taylor

I Am God Almighty, El Shaddai Part 1

June 24, 2024

Today we’ll join pastor Ed Taylor in Genesis chapter 35.  Jacob is at a pivotal time in his life.  He receives a new name, Israel, which means governed by God.  And the Lord also tells him, “I am God Almighty, El Shaddai.”   Let’s see how this applies to our lives in Christ today on Abounding Grace.

We’re making our way through First Corinthians.  And here lately we’ve been exploring the manifestations of the Spirit… which includes the gifts of healings.  When we are, or a loved one is sick, it’s a good idea to go to the Lord and ask for healing!  He is more than able and willing to heal today, but sometimes He chooses not to.

We’ll be covering Genesis chapter 35 today, where Jacob is experiencing a great revival in his life.  God would call him back to Bethel, the place where he met the Lord.  And just perhaps this is just what needs to happen in your life today!  Allow the Lord to speak to you as only He can through His wonderful word.

Today we’ll hear of a beautiful revival taking place in Jacob’s life!  And maybe that’s exactly what needs to happen in your life, as you’ve drifted spiritually.  The good news is, what happened in Jacob’s life, can happen with you too.

Today on Abounding Grace we’ll take another look at Jacob’s family. It was a mess, to put it mildly.  In Genesis chapter 34 we hear of a terrible rape and murder that occured.  It will serve as a needed reminder to us that taking revenge only makes things worse!  We’ll also hear about the dangers of greed and coveting! I think you’d agree, there’s a lot of that going on in our world!

Rape, murder, deception...  while that may sound to us like the headliner for a local newscast, would you believe it’s also a description of the 34th chapter of Genesis? We’ll take a look at it today on Abounding Grace.  And through it all we’ll learn a thing or two about reconciliation and forgiveness.

As Christians as long as we have breath, we’re to be always growing in grace.  We never arrive until we get to heaven.  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll take a look at some of the changes God is bringing about in Jacob’s life, and it is encouraging.  Though he’s still wrestling with the flesh, there are some noticeable changes in his life.

Whether you’ve been hit with the news that you have cancer, or you’re suffering through a disease like diabetes or parkinsons, it’s important to know that God cares about you and what you’re going through.  And it just may be in His plan and will to heal you!  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll spend some time talking about the gifts of healings.  Yes God does heal today, but pastor Ed Taylor cautions us not to make the mistake of thinking the Lord will heal everyone who has faith.

Today we’ll resume our series in Genesis.  When we left Jacob’s story, he was in a good place, now governed by God after a big wrestling match.  But that doesn’t mean that he’s arrived and there’s nothing more to learn in life!  We’re to be always growing in grace.  It’s true for Jacob, and true for me and you.

You’ve no doubt seen a sporting event that was a total mismatch from the word go.  Perhaps it was the lowest seed playing the top seeded team.  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll take a look at the greatest mismatch of all. Jacob is about to enter into a wrestling match with God, and it would lead him to a place of full surrender, governed by God.

Pastor Ed Taylor is leading a study in Genesis right now, and we have an eye on chapter 32.  There are three notable events here involving Jacob.  The first was his encounter with angels!  Then we find Jacob in prayer!   And finally we’ll hear of Jacob in a wrestling match with God.
