Humble Submission to the Will of God Part 2

July 3, 2024

Temptation to sin… we all face it.  Maybe it’s a temptation to cheat on an exam at school, cheat on your spouse, or not report some of your income!  But there is a way to resist temptation successfully, and it’s modeled for us by Joseph.  That’s the focus of our time and attention today on Abounding Grace.  We’re in the middle of the story of Joseph and you’re about to hear the temptation that he faced. You’ll find it in Genesis chapter thirty-nine.

Emmanuel means God with us.  But do you really live like you believe that God is with you?  Even when the doctor says it’s cancer, or you’re laid off at work!  Today on Abounding Grace we continue the story of Joseph in Genesis chapter 39, and pastor Ed Taylor doesn’t want us to lose sight of this… God was with Joseph every step of the way.  Even in his trials and temptation.  The same holds true for each of us.

Pastor Ed Taylor is our Bible teacher, and today he opens Genesis chapter 38.  As you closely examine the family tree of Jesus, you quickly see it’s full of big time sinners.  But this ought to encourage us.  You see, we’re big sinners too.  And God has the grace to meet us where we’re at and adopt us into His family.

We revisit First Corinthians this weekend, and currently unveiling the manifestations of the Spirit that we find in chapter twelve.  As we read our Bibles we notice God did some amazing miracles, from the parting of the Red Sea, to saving Daniel from being eaten in a Lion’s Den, or how about Jonah being swallowed by a big fish and living to tell about it!  But does God still do miracles today?  Let’s find out!

Last time we heard a part of the story of Joseph, and his brothers selling him into slavery.  Today we’ll pay particular attention to the older brother Judah.  As you’ll see he made a series of very bad decisions that would lead to severe consequences.  But through it all we’ll be reminded of God’s amazing grace and that Jesus is a friend of sinners.

Today we continue our study in Genesis.  And we’ve just entered into the section about Joseph’s life in chapter 37.  As you’ll hear in a moment he’s about to have a dream that angered his brothers greatly.  So much so, they conspired to kill him.  It stands out in scripture as a reminder of what hatred, anger and envy can do to us and lead to.

Ed Taylor is leading us on an inspiring and challenging study through the book of Genesis, and today we’re going to look at chapter thirty-seven.  Here we’re introduced to Joseph who experienced quite a bit of pain and difficulty in his life.  But through it all God was molding and shaping him into the man he wanted him to be. You can be sure, the Lord is up to the same good work in us.

Today we focus our time and attention on Genesis chapters 35 and 36.  Last time we were together, Jacob received a new name and that’s Israel.  His new identity is, he's now governed by God.  And that’s a good place to be, even for us today.  As we’re governed by God we’ll find that’s the place of blessing and victory.

Today we’ll join pastor Ed Taylor in Genesis chapter 35.  Jacob is at a pivotal time in his life.  He receives a new name, Israel, which means governed by God.  And the Lord also tells him, “I am God Almighty, El Shaddai.”   Let’s see how this applies to our lives in Christ today on Abounding Grace.

We’re making our way through First Corinthians.  And here lately we’ve been exploring the manifestations of the Spirit… which includes the gifts of healings.  When we are, or a loved one is sick, it’s a good idea to go to the Lord and ask for healing!  He is more than able and willing to heal today, but sometimes He chooses not to.

We’ll be covering Genesis chapter 35 today, where Jacob is experiencing a great revival in his life.  God would call him back to Bethel, the place where he met the Lord.  And just perhaps this is just what needs to happen in your life today!  Allow the Lord to speak to you as only He can through His wonderful word.
