So there you are seated next to someone on a plane, or at the family dinner table, and a golden opportunity presents itself to share the gospel.  What do you say and how do you say it?  If you’re not quite sure, stick around, as today’s Abounding Grace will prove to be very helpful.  Pastor Ed Taylor is continuing a series called, “Be the Church.”  We’re learning what it means to be the church, and a big part of that is lived out by lovingly evangelizing, caring for and serving the world in which you live.

Whether it’s a family member, friend, or total stranger sitting next to us… we have daily encounters with the unsaved.  And God wants to use us to reach them.  So today and tomorrow on Abounding Grace we’re going to learn how to share the gospel, and get prepared for this calling!

Tongues and the interpretation of tongues, there’s quite a bit of confusion and controversy surrounding these two manifestations of the Spirit. And we hope to clear some of that up today on Abounding Grace, as pastor Ed Taylor returns to his series in First Corinthians. If you’ve been in the church for quite some time, you’re probably familiar with some of the controversy. In one camp you have those that claim these sign gifts have ceased. And then there are others who would tell you you’re really not saved or spiritual if you don’t speak in tongues. Pastor Ed believes both of these extremes are to be avoided, and now helps us arrive at a biblical understanding.

We’re unveiling God’s strategy for reaching the lost today on Abounding Grace!  Join us in Acts chapter one verse eight as we continue our new series, “Be the Church.”  The church is to be all about the gospel and sharing it with the lost. If we’re not doing that, we’re off track!  But how do we reach the lost? The answer if wonderfully simple and given to us in the first chapter of Acts.

There’s a lost and dying world around us!  Whether it be our family and friends, our neighbors, those in our community, or people we don’t even know on the other side of the world.  But the question is, how do we reach them with the gospel? The answer is wonderfully simple, and layed for us in Acts chapter one verse eight.

We are very excited about today’s program as we return to our series, “Be the Church!”  As we’ll discover in a moment the baptism of the Holy Spirit helps us to be the church.  It’s only by the power of God that we’re capable of such a thing. Pastor Ed Taylor has observed three experiences or relationships we can have with the Holy Spirit.

Today pastor Ed Taylor’s message will help you better understand the baptism of the Holy Spirit. In other words the power of God to help us to live a life that looks like Jesus and be His witness. I think you’ll be encouraged by just how easy it is to receive this!

We’re in the early going of a brand new series in Acts called, “Be the Church!”  As we’ll learn today part of being the church involves taking the message of Christ out to our neighborhood, surrounding communities and world! We’re to be making disciples, and not consumers. That’s the main thrust of today’s message from pastor Ed Taylor in Acts chapter one.

Does this sound familiar?  You’re listening to a teacher, or a friend comes up to you and says something that just doesn’t seem right.  You can’t put your finger on it, but there’s a check in your Spirit!  What do you do next?  Pastor Ed will show us that God will often give us discernment when we need it most.  And if we’ll follow the leading of the Spirit, that’ll save us from getting into a lot of trouble.

Consumerism has invaded so many lives today, and sadly much of the church as well!  But today on Abounding Grace, we’ll be encouraged to make disciples not consumers as our study of Acts kicks into high gear. We’re learning how to be the church in the 21st century, as described for us here in Acts.
