Give Yourself Completely to the Lord Part 1

March 6, 2025

So you’ve received Jesus as your Lord and Savior… that’s great!  But have you given yourself completely to the Lord?  Today we’ll be challenged to examine our lives like the apostle Paul did, and go deeper in the things of God!

References: Acts 18:18-28

The Case for Easter by Lee Strobel

You might think of it as an investigation into Christ’s death and resurrection, that answers a few key questions. Was Jesus’ death a sham? Was his tomb really empty? Was He seen alive after his death on the cross? This would be a great resource to share around Easter time.

We’re going to resume pastor Ed Taylor’s study of Acts, as we look at chapter seventeen once again.  The scene shifts to Athens today.  As Paul the apostle looks around, he sees the city full of idols, and so he begins presenting just what they needed to hear... the Gospel message!  And the Lord gives us many opportunities to do the same if we’re open and willing.  In this passage pastor Ed Taylor has observed five things that can help you reach this generation with Jesus.

Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor points to the door God opened for Paul the apostle and what happened as a result of Paul walking by faith.  Through it all we’ll discover how God leads our lives even still today.  We’re in Second Corinthians chapter two.

Throughout the day we talk about the weather, how our day is going, our interests and maybe even current events.  But today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor will encourage us to talk about the greatest news of all. And if you’re like a lot of believers you really struggle in this area of personal evangelism.  So this is much needed encouragement from Acts chapter seventeen today.

I probably don’t have to convince you this world is messed up and upside down due to sin.  We’re reminded of that virtually every time we turn on the news.  What can turn things around you may be wondering?  Today on Abounding Grace that’s answered for us as we visit Acts seventeen.

Today we’ll resume our study in Acts with a look at chapter seventeen, and how the ministry of Paul and Barnabas and friends was turning the world upside down! Or I should say turning it right side up! This message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ was controversial to say the least, but God was saving a lot of souls! Today’s mixed up world could use a good dose of the pure gospel truth, don’t you think?

You might find it easy to praise the Lord in church on Sunday when all is well, but what about in a jail cell, and you’re there for being faithful to God’s calling on your life?  Well that’s the place we find Paul and Silas in Acts sixteen.  While we might expect them to be moaning and groaning about the circumstances they find themselves in, they were actually praying and singing hymns to God!  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll see how we can follow their lead, next time we find ourselves in a trial similar to this dungeon in Philippi.

We’ve all experienced closed doors, and it can be hard to handle.  Maybe you didn’t get into the school of your dreams, or got passed over for a job you really wanted.  But as we’ll learn today on Abounding Grace, those closed doors can lead to incredible blessings. We’ll take you to Acts chapter sixteen and observe how the Holy Spirit led Paul and his missionary team.  It’ll prove to be valuable instruction as we try to make sense of those inevitable closed doors.

They are three of the hardest words for many to say, but some of the most powerful when you do say and mean them…. “I forgive you!”  Why do we have such a hard time forgiving someone else, especially in light of all that God has forgiven us of?  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll discover how to deal with the wrongs in our lives and find the freedom in forgiveness.
