What does a healthy church look like?  That’s the question we’re continuing to ask here at Abounding Grace.  And Acts chapter two provides a wonderful answer.  Last time we were together we learned that a healthy church is one that’s learning.  Now today we’ll go on to see that they are loving!

Today we return to pastor Ed Taylor’s series in Acts, and right now we’re placing special emphasis on chapter two, verses 40-47.  We’re uncovering what a healthy, well balanced church looks like, using the acronym W.E.L.L.   W stands for worshipping.  E- Evangelizing.  L- Learning.  And the other L is Loving.  Today we’re going to primarily focus on Learning and see how that plays a huge part in us being spiritually healthy.

We hope it’s your desire to be a part of a strong, healthy church.  But what does a healthy church look like, according to God?  We get some clues in Acts chapter two.  Pastor Ed Taylor has observed four ingredients in a church that’s Well!  And today on Abounding Grace we’ll begin looking at each of these ingredients.  The first of which is Learning!

Many Christians have believed the lie from the enemy that they’re not very important or needed.  And so they remain on the sidelines.  Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor urges us to get back into the game, as he takes us to First Corinthians twelve.

What makes a sermon good and effective?  Today on Abounding Grace we’ll take a look at Peter’s Sermon as recorded for us in Acts chapter two and delivered in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, the birthday of the church.  What made it so good is it was all about Jesus, it was rooted in Scripture, and fueled by the Holy Spirit!

Today on Abounding Grace we’re spotlighting God’s undying love for you and the lost.  Pastor Ed Taylor will have us look at Peter’s sermon in Acts chapter two for inspiration and application.  3,000 people were saved on the heels of this message, and really it’s all connected to the power of the Spirit of God working through the Word of God!

Acts chapter two records the day of Pentecost.  But pastor Ed is quick to point out that many totally miss the point of this passage, thinking it’s just about the gift of tongues.  The emphasis is really on God and how He keeps His promises.  He’s faithful and reliable in every way in our lives.

Pastor Ed Taylor will continue our series, “Be the Church!”  Open that Bible of yours to Acts chapter two.  We plan on being here in this chapter for quite some time as there is so much for us to unpack and apply.  If you’ll recall last time we were together the disciples were told to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father.  Here in chapter two, that promise arrives!

We all face decisions or situations, big and small, every day!  But do you try to figure it out on your own?  A much better way to go is to look to the Lord in prayer, and wait upon God.  Today we’ll join pastor Ed in Acts chapter one, where a case could be made that Peter is getting ahead of the Lord.  Instead of waiting, like God instructed him to do, he’s acting and putting limitations on God.

Some might be tempted to think we’re opening a can of worms today on Abounding Grace, as we enter into a talk about the gifts and manifestations of tongues and its interpretation.  But really we’re just opening the Bible.  Pastor Ed Taylor will help us arrive at a biblical understanding of these two manifestations that are often avoided, misunderstood, and even misused.

Pastor Ed Taylor is about to open Acts chapter one.  And at this particular point in time Judas needs to be replaced, but the disciples were told to wait!  Pastor Ed believes on this occasion Peter gets ahead of the Lord and places limitations upon the Lord that he shouldn’t have.  Something we’re all prone to do at various times.  But as we’ll discover, sometimes God works outside of our expectations.
