The Greatest Gift You’ll Ever Receive

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 nkjv).

Imagine for a moment that you really want to show someone that you love them, so you sell your house, your car, and basically everything you have to buy a Christmas gift for them.

When the time comes for you to present this incredible gift to the person you love, he or she says, “Oh, that is really sweet of you! But I really couldn’t take this.”

“Wait a second,” you say. “I gave up everything to give you this gift because I want to show my love to you. Merry Christmas.”

“I really can’t accept it. It’s so nice of you. I appreciate it, but no. Maybe later. Would you mind holding on to it and maybe give it to me in a month? I’ll look at it then.”

You would be outright offended, wouldn’t you?

In the same way, God comes to us and says, “I love you so much that I sent My Son to die for you so that you could be forgiven of all your sins. It’s My gift to you.”

Yet some people essentially say, “Oh, that is so sweet. Thank you, but no. Would you mind waiting? Maybe in a month or so. I’ll get back to you.”

God has a gift for you, and He purchased it at great cost. He’s offering you the gift of eternal life, bought for you by Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus purchased it with His own blood. You can never afford it. And you can never pay Him back.

The best thing you can do is to simply say, “Lord, thank you. I receive Your gift.”

Jesus was born to die so that we might live. That is the greatest gift you will ever receive. And if you haven’t received it yet, receive it now.
