Teaching in Parables Part 1

September 28, 2024

Jesus was sure great about taking deep heavenly truths, and making them easy to understand. One of His chosen methods of teaching was through stories we refer to as parables. Maybe like me you enjoy a good story. Our Lord was the master story teller! On today’s A Daily Walk with pastor John Randall, we’ll begin a look at one of these parables - a rather well known one that deals with reaping and sowing.

Pleasing God
This month we’d like to make special mention of an excellent book written by Kay Smith titled, “Pleasing God.”  We face choices every day, and we hope it’s your desire to please God as you go about making those decisions. In Pleasing God, Kay Smith encourages women to think of God first and to live with His pleasure in mind!

Most of us really struggle with patience.  It’s usually on full display for all to see during rush hour traffic, or when the grocery line is more than three people!  But God is very patient and long-suffering in His dealings with us.  And we should be thankful He is!  With that said, that doesn’t mean we should take advantage of it and continue to resist His plan and purpose in our lives.

There are many difficult and debated questions in Christian circles.  One of the biggies has to do with God’s sovereign will.  We’ll discover today on a Daily Walk that God in His sovereignty has the ability to show mercy, and the ability to honor a decision made against Him through a person’s free will!  Does that seem a little unfair or unjust? Or maybe a little hard to understand?  If so, listen to this as pastor John Randall visits Romans chapter nine.

You may have heard a couple of Christians discussing or debating the sovereignty of God and free will of man.  Typically folks fall in one camp or the other.  But today we’ll learn that the Bible actually teaches both.  And so we should embrace both, even though we may not understand how they intersect.  That’s the emphasis of pastor John Randall’s message, “God’s Election of Israel.”

Pastor John Randall makes it clear today that we have a limited understanding this side of heaven, and we need to be ok with that.  At times we don’t fully understand God’s choices and ways.  But one thing is for sure… God is good and can be trusted.  Let’s turn to Romans chapter nine for part one of God’s election of Israel.

Is God done with Israel?  Some would say, it sure looks like it.  But a careful look at history, at what God’s done and is doing, proves He has a plan for Israel!  Pastor John Randall enters some deep waters today in Romans chapter nine.

Today we’ll meet a group of religious leaders that were self-deceived, thinking it was enough just to clean the outside of their lives, without addressing what’s wrong on the inside.  That resembles a lot of folks today!   Jesus makes it clear in Matthew chapter twelve that real and lasting change starts with a transformation on the inside that only God can accomplish.

It seems like a day doesn’t go by that we don’t at the very least hear of Israel mentioned in the news.  Needless to say, many eyes are on this little nation… even God’s!  While many of the Jews have rejected their Messiah, God hasn’t forgotten them.  He has a plan for them, and that’s the focus of Romans chapter nine.

We’ve been making our way, verse by verse through the New Testament. And Romans chapter eight asserts God is for us. This great truth assures us that no matter what we face in life, if God is for us, we’re on the winning side.

We come to a very familiar verse today on a Daily Walk, Romans eight twenty-eight!  It reminds us that believers are in the hands of God, who in His remarkable providence works all things together for good.  But how do you really know that all things are working together for good in your life?  Maybe that seems hard to believe when the doctor says its cancer, or you have a flat tire on the side of the road.  Pastor John Randall looks into this very question today, as we return to Romans chapter eight.

As believers in Christ we look forward to the day we’re in heaven, when every tear will be wiped away.  There’ll be no more suffering, sickness, or death.  But in the meantime, we will experience pain and suffering.  Today on a Daily Walk, pastor John Randall will help us maintain the right perspective through those painful trials, with eyes set on Jesus.
