Persistence in Prayer Part 2

February 1, 2024

Today John discusses once again a very important part of a Christian’s life - prayer. When we’re conversing with another person they might take it as an insult if we repeated the same thing over and over again to them.  But not so with God.  He delights to hear our requests, and not just one and done.  Often we lack the persistence in prayer that’s needed. We’re to keep praying in faith until we hear the answer!

Have you ever given up on something too soon?  I think we’ve all been there.  Maybe you quit a job out of frustration and later regretted it?  Or perhaps you threw in the towel after a year or two of piano lessons, and wish you hadn’t.  Sometimes we give up too soon in prayer, when we don’t see an answer as quickly as we’d like.  And that’s a big mistake.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see how important it is to persevere in prayer.

Currently, Pastor John Randall is developing a study in the Gospel of Luke.  We’ll be in chapter seventeen today, where Jesus is questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God is coming.  Maybe you’ve wondered, is Jesus coming soon and what will the world be like just before He returns?  The Lord answers that for us.  He says that it will resemble the days of Noah and of Lot.

Today we reopen the Gospel of Luke together.  In chapter seventeen, Jesus turns our attention to His Second Coming.  It’s been two thousand years since our Lord uttered these words, and one can’t help but ask just when this prophecy will be fulfilled.  Pastor John Randall delivers a study helping us get ready for the return of the Lord.

We’ve reached Matthew chapter six today where we’re exhorted by Christ to do good deeds and give.  Now there’s a right way and a wrong way to go about it.  While many are seeking the approval and applause of people, as they do something good, the Lord wants us to bring Him all the glory instead.

The Bible is a wonderful gift from God. One of the things about this great book is how practical it is. Today’s look at Luke seventeen is another example of the practicality of God’s word. Pastor John will offer up a few practical lessons for disciples and one of them is regarding forgiveness!

The Bible teaches that each man is appointed once to die, and then comes the judgment.  Some will be sentenced to an eternal hell, while others will experience an eternity in heaven.  Pastor John will explain what determines who will go where.  Which of the two roads are you traveling on today? All of this is part of our continuing study of Luke.

What happens when we die?  Perhaps, like many, you’ve pondered that question.  Luke chapter sixteen gives us a pretty good idea of the afterlife!  In the account Jesus shares about a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus.  Here you have two men with completely different eternal destinations.  One leads to eternal pain and torment, while the other promises an eternity of joy and bliss in the presence of God.

Today we’ll set out to better understand God’s purpose for our marriages, and what the Bible says about divorce.  Are there ever biblical grounds for a divorce?  Let’s say you’re married to an unbeliever, what are you supposed to do?  And are you free to remarry should they choose to leave you?  There you have a few very common questions and the bible has answers.

We all have difficult people in our lives, who perhaps hurl insults our way, spew hatred in our direction, or act in some malicious way to us.   Do we give them a little taste of their own medicine, and get them back for all they’ve done?  Actually, as we’ll see today on a Daily Walk we’re called to love them.
