Love and Liberty Part 1b

January 31, 2023

It’s not hard to see, our nation is divided.  While that’s the case in the world, it shouldn’t be in the church.  Today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall encourages us to work through our differences and work toward unity.  You can be sure, you’ll encounter some with a different opinion or conviction than you.  But when it comes to doubtful things, well there’s no need to divide!  And it’s an opportunity to love.

One of the difficulties we face as Christians is the differing views on the so-called grey areas or liberties, things that God’s word does not specifically address!  Maybe you’ve noticed, not every Christian shares the same opinions as you, and we may have different convictions. But that doesn’t mean we should be dividing over it.  We’re about to continue in the book of Romans today on a Daily Walk! As we do we are reminded that while God’s commands are to be obeyed, one of them is to not condemn our brother or sister who practice their God given liberties or have different convictions than we do.

Most of us have experienced this… we’ve overslept and missed an important appointment or didn’t end up where we were supposed to be as a result.  Sadly many Christians are asleep spiritually, and are missing out on something good!  As we’ll see today on a Daily Walk it’s time to wake-up!  We’re in the last days, and Jesus is coming soon.  With that in mind, we need to be ready and we need to be loving others.  Pastor John Randall will sound the alarm as he turns to Romans chapter thirteen starting at verse nine.

Today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall examines the biblical role of government, and our God-given response to those in authority!  As we study Romans thirteen we discover that government plays a very important role in our lives, and we’re to be respectful and obey.  But are there times when we are to refuse to submit to the government?  Where do we draw the line?  We could turn to Daniel for starters, to help us answer that.

As Christians our primary allegiance is to Christ and we know we’re to follow His Word.  But what is our responsibility to the government around us?  And is there ever a point in which we refuse to abide by the laws of the land?  We’re looking at the Christian and our civic responsibility today on a Daily Walk.  It’s part of pastor John Randall’s new study of Romans.

Whether it’s at a birthday, Christmas or graduation we’re accustomed to giving and receiving gifts.  I think you’d agree it would be rather disappointing to have given a gift to someone and later find out it was never used or put away in storage somewhere.  Now God gives each of His children spiritual gifts… but sadly many Christians never put them to use.  Imagine how that makes the Lord feel? Pastor John Randall returns to his study of Romans here on a Daily Walk and we’ll be focusing on chapter twelve... one of a few spots in Scripture that list the spiritual gifts.  All Christians have been given gifts, and let’s see how to use them to glorify God.

Whether we’re helping someone get their groceries every now and then, caring for babies in the nursery, or helping teach a Sunday School class, God can use us in powerful ways.  Question is are you putting the gifts He’s given you to use?  God wants to use us and what a privilege that is when you stop to think of it.
