Pastor John is quick to admit this passage isn’t easy to interpret, but it paints a wonderful contrast between the life of Adam and the life of Jesus.

The Pharisees were obsessed with catching Jesus in the act of breaking their rules and traditions. But, in actuality, their laws often cut against the grain of the Scriptures, and Jesus conveyed this to them in such clever ways that they were usually left scratching their heads! Ask them a question like, “Are you going to heaven when you die?” And they might say something like, “I think so, I’m a pretty good person.” Today we open our Bibles to Romans chapter four, and find the truth about our salvation. We’re all made righteous through trusting in Christ alone, and not by anything we have done.

In Romans chapter four the argument for salvation by grace through faith is made by using the historical account of Abraham. We’ll join pastor John Randall in Romans chapter three on this Wednesday. Today we’re going to unwrap the beautiful doctrine of salvation. We’re guilty sinners, with no way to become righteous on our own. But God provided a solution to our sin problem. While being Just, He at the same time justifies the guilty sinner through the work of Jesus on the cross.
