John Randall

How to Pray, Part 2

June 24, 2023

Pastor John Randall is about to open Matthew six, and return to his series on the Sermon on the Mount.  We’re taking some extra time looking at what we might say is a model for prayer, given by Jesus to His disciples.  It starts with worship, then goes into petitions, and then ends with worship.

We’ll be in Matthew chapter 23 today if you want to find your place there now.  Jesus is in the last week of His earthly ministry and conveying some important things to His disciples before He would leave them.  In this passage He takes time out to point out the hypocrisy in the religious leaders.  Essentially saying, don’t be like them!  They were putting on a good show, but we’re not practicing what they preached.

Today we dive right back into our through the Bible series.  In Matthew chapter 23 Jesus points out the great hypocrisy in the Pharisees. They were all about showing off, doing what they did to be seen by men.  And they certainly didn’t practice what they preached.  Pastor John observes the same sort of behavior in much of the world today in his message, “The Woes of Religion!”

Today we’ll continue John’s verse by verse series through Matthew with a stop in chapter twenty-two. Once again we see the religious leaders of the day up to no good trying to trap Jesus with questions.  And as always, the Lord puts no doubt in anyone’s mind who is really the authority on all matters and in control. Turn to Matthew chapter twenty-two and join us for a great time in God’s Word.

We receive invitations all the time.  Whether it be to go out to dinner with friends or something a little more formal like to a wedding.  And generally speaking we give it some thought as to whether we’ll accept or not.  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll hear an invitation go out from God Himself, and it’s the most important of all.  Question is, will you accept or reject it?

Today pastor John takes us to Matthew chapter twenty-one, and a couple of powerful illustrations.  Jesus spoke these parables to the religious leaders, both challenging their authority and unmasking their hypocrisy!  We’ll soon see that their mistakes are being repeated even still today.

The ways in which we communicate has certainly changed over the years!  Remember using those rotary phones? Now today we have cell phones, where we can call or text someone wherever we are.  Or email them!  Today on a Daily Walk, we’ll examine the best way to communicate..... with God the Father, through our representative Jesus Christ.  And it hasn’t changed a bit over the years.

As we open Matthew chapter 21 today we encounter some powerful illustrations.  One of them involving a withering fig tree.  While application could be made to the religious system and nation of Israel, we’ll also take a look in the mirror.  Perhaps your life could be described as dried up and withered?

Pastor John Randall is our teacher, and today John takes us to Matthew chapter twenty-one.  When we think of Jesus, pictures of loving, gentle, meek and mild may flash into our minds.  But today we’ll see a different side to our Lord.  He actually got very upset, and for good reason.  People were being taken advantage of in the Temple. Could we be guilty of the very same thing?  Don’t be so quick to say no.

We’ve been going verse by verse through Matthew over the past few months, and today we’ll begin our study in chapter twenty-one. It’s the last week of Jesus’ life and ministry and He’s about to enter into Jerusalem for His final public appearance.

Have you ever wondered why God just doesn’t take us on up to heaven the moment we become saved?  Well the answer in part is we have a job to do. And part of that involves serving Him and sharing the gospel.  Today pastor John encourages us to be faithful to our calling until the Lord takes us home!
