How to Fast and Treasures in Heaven Part 2

July 8, 2023

Financial experts have varying opinions when it comes to investing, but most will agree on the principle of diversification.  In other words, “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket”. However, when it comes to storing up heavenly treasures, that doesn’t apply. We need only invest in heavenly stock, and this wise investment will lead to eternal spiritual dividends. We’ll examine our relationship to what we have today on a Daily Walk. Pastor John Randall is currently teaching from the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew six.

If you’re a regular listener, you know that we’ve been spending a good deal of time in the gospel of Matthew.  Just part of our through the Bible study.  Today pastor John Randall will share a message centered around the arrest and trials of Jesus. We’ve all heard stories of unjustified arrests, but this takes the cake, He was completely innocent and yet allowed it all to happen!

We’ll be in the gospel of Matthew chapter 26. Jesus is on the road to the cross and about to be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane.  It would be right here that He would be betrayed by one of His disciples.  If you’ve ever been betrayed by someone close to you, well you know how awful that is!  Few things in life are as painful as that.  Let’s see how Jesus handled it all!

If you’re a regular listener, you know we’ve spent several months going verse by verse through the gospel of Matthew. We’ve now reached a pivotal section in this account of the Lord’s earthly life and ministry.  In chapter sixteen we have a very touching scene where Mary is worshipping at the feet of Jesus.  While some were critical of her, Jesus saw it for what it truly was… pure worship.  And it should inspire us all to do the same.

Happy fourth of July from all of us at A Daily Walk, with pastor John Randall.  It’s on this day that we enjoy fireworks, barbecues and parades.  But more importantly we celebrate our nation’s freedom through the passage of the Declaration of Independence.  It's fitting I think on a day like this that we pause to consider the greatest freedom that we enjoy as Christians, secured for us by Jesus on the cross.  Freedom from sin and to enjoy a life with Christ forever.  Turn with us to Matthew chapter 26, as pastor John recalls the great sacrifice by our Savior to secure that freedom for us and the proper response to it… worship.

Today on a Daily Walk we give attention to a couple of powerful parables spoken by our Lord in Matthew chapter 25.  Jesus is coming again at a time when it’s not expected, and we’re to be ready for it!  Part of being ready involves using what God has given us for His glory and the Kingdom of God.  Question is, what are you doing with what you’ve been given by God?  Are you faithful and are you ready?

Here on a Daily Walk, we give attention to the practice of fasting - denying our physical appetite to concentrate on our spiritual appetite.  In the sixth chapter of Matthew, pastor John Randall has been dealing with three basic disciplines of the believer. Today he talks about fasting.

Today John Randall will bring us another message from his series through Matthew’s gospel.  We all know the Boy Scout motto, “Be prepared”. It’s also a very good motto for us as we await the time when the Lord will take His people home in the rapture.   Will you be ready and prepared when that happens?  Let’s get ready, as we join pastor John in Matthew 25.

Pastor John Randall will bring us another challenging message from God’s word today as we continue our study through Matthew.  We’ll pay another visit to the Olivet Discourse in chapter 24 today.  If you’ll recall this is Jesus’ response to His disciples’ question concerning when the Temple would be destroyed, when the end of the age would occur, and when His second coming would take place and His Kingdom be established.  But today we want to pause and consider how we are to live in light of what of what we’ve been made aware of.

Maybe like many you’ve wondered, what will the second coming of Christ look like, and when will it occur?  The disciples of Christ wondered about that too, and posed a similar question to Jesus.  We’ll hear our Lord’s enlightening answer today on a Daily Walk as we dive back into the Olivet Discourse in Matthew chapter 24.

Today we’ll jump right back into our verse by verse study through the gospel of Matthew. Summer is officially here, and there are signs we look for that tell us it is here, like warmer weather. There are also signs we should be aware of that tell us we are living in the last days before the return of Christ. Do you know what they are? Jesus tells us in Matthew twenty-four to know the signs and be prepared.
