False teaching is prevalent. It’s been in the church since the beginning and surely making its way through the church at the present time!  But how are we to face these false teachers?  The same way Timothy did!  Today on a Daily Walk we recall a time in the early church when Timothy needed to confront the false teachers.  And the apostle Paul would share with young Timothy the reasons why they are to be avoided.  Pastor John Randall will relate all of this to our day, and the false teaching that exists.

Paul in writing to Timothy encourages him to look to the soldier, athlete and farmer for characteristics to apply to his life and ministry.  And these are words we really need to hear today too.  For instance the soldier follows the commands of his superior officer without hesitation.  And that should be our response to God’s commands to us! Or how about the farmer, who needs patience when dealing with his crops.  You can be sure patience will be needed in our lives from time to time!

Agriculture is a huge part of America’s heritage.  It’s amazing to consider that farmers are willing to invest so much time and effort into the land and their crops, knowing that they won’t see any income until harvest time.  That sort of diligent commitment is necessary in the Christian life as well.  In fact, the apostle Paul used the metaphors of a hard working farmer, athlete and soldier to show us what Christian life and ministry is to be like.

Your boss tells you to lie and cover something up, but you refuse to do it and you’re fired as a result.  Or your friend wants you to go to a party, and you know sinful activity will occur there, so you politely decline.  As a result you’re ridiculed and despised!  At times we’ll suffer for doing right in God’s sight, and we shouldn’t be ashamed when that occurs!  That’s the message Paul wanted to emphasize to Timothy in the passage before us.  And maybe it’s just what you need to hear today?

As the apostle John is ushered up into heaven for a look around he described what he saw in Revelation.  And today we’ll notice that he focuses on a scroll in the right hand of the Father.  The question is asked, Who is worthy to take the scroll.  And as we’ll discover today, the answer is Jesus, the lamb of God.

Today Pastor John Randall begins a new book of the Bible - Second Timothy. It’s the apostle Paul’s last book that he wrote - just before he was martyred for his faith.  If you were awaiting your death, in a dungeon, you might be down and depressed… but not Paul!  He had a thankful heart and was quick to praise God and pray for others! What a great example to us. There’s lots of wonderful encouragement to receive from this book - so join pastor John as he begins with some necessary points of introduction and background.

About A Daily Walk

John Randall is the Senior Pastor of Calvary South OC located in San Clemente CA. John has been serving in pastoral ministry for over 25 years and is the featured speaker on the Bible teaching radio program "A Daily Walk."  He is known for his clear and relatable presentation of the Scriptures.

About John Randall

As a child, John’s family  began attending Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa  in 1974.  It was there that he attended  the elementary school, Jr. High, and graduated from Calvary Chapel High School.  Following graduation he went on staff at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa as a janitor. It was also at this time that he met his wife Michelle who was teaching at Calvary’s elementary school.

After four years on staff  having served in children’s ministry, high school ministry and worship John went on staff at Calvary Chapel in Vista CA. 

In 1997 the Randall’s set out on a venture of faith to the SouthEast of Florida where they planted their first church, Calvary Chapel of Brandon. After ten years of ministry in Florida the Lord called the Randall's back to Southern California where John currently pastors at  Calvary South OC.  John has been serving in pastoral ministry for over 25 years and is the featured speaker on the Bible teaching radio program "A Daily Walk." He is known for his clear and relate-able presentation of the Scriptures. John and his wife Michelle have four children.
