Avoiding Hypocrisy Part 1

August 7, 2024

The law is much like a mirror- it can only show us our sin- it can’t cleanse us of it.  Yet too many seek to live under the law expecting they can perform it.  That only leads to hypocrisy and judgmentalism. There’s a better way - a way that actually works!  Today on a Daily Walk we take you to Romans chapter two and see together what that is.

Maybe you’ve noticed, we’re pretty good at making excuses to justify our bad behavior.  But we’re all too quick to come down hard on others who do the very same thing. This sort of self-deception and self-righteousness was present in the heart of the people we’ll read about today in Romans chapter two.

Think you’re better than the next guy.... think again!  Apart from Christ, we’re all seen as unrighteous and wicked in the sight of God.  And that’s important to understand, as it emphasizes how greatly we need a savior.  Pastor John Randall is going through Romans right now, and we enter chapter two today. Our attention turns now to those who are self-righteous, and hypocritical.  It’s not just a problem in the past, but very much an issue in the present.

Even John the Baptist wondered about Jesus and had some doubts. And in Matthew chapter eleven sent some of his disciples to ask Jesus if he was indeed the expected Messiah. Today on A Daily Walk Pastor John Randall continues his study of Matthew’s gospel, and we’ll be in chapter eleven.

Sin is not to be trifled with because it’s a powerful force that wreaks havoc. God would have us avoid the great harm and instead experience the freedom and fulfillment that only comes by living according to His truth. We'll hear the steps downward in the depravity of man.

Maybe you’ve noticed, there’s a concentrated effort today to suppress the truth, or hold it down!  Attempt to share God’s truth in this environment and you might get this reply, “Well that’s your truth, not mine!”  But today on the program we’ll see what this sort of behavior really leads to, and it’s not pretty.  Pastor John will be covering Romans chapter one.

In these last days we have countless numbers of opportunities to share the gospel and tell others about Jesus.  It may be at the family dinner table, or as you’re seated next to a total stranger on a plane.  Question is will you hold back because of fear, or step out in faith and courage?  Today on a Daily Walk we’ll be encouraged by a man who was unashamed of the gospel, because he realized it is the power of God unto salvation.

Pastor John Randall is leading a study of Romans.  We’ll be covering the first seven verses today which really uncovers Paul’s heart for the church at Rome.  He was thinking of them, praying for them, and longing to see them.  Pastor John says that’s reminiscent of how Jesus sees His church… us!

What will keep you going when the going gets tough?  Keeping our eyes on the prize, a glorious eternity in heaven with Jesus.  So anything we go through is worth it.  That's the focus of today's program.
