An Unlikely Calling Part 1

May 1, 2023

We’re so often quick to size people up and think to ourselves, “Well they’re not a good fit!”  Some no doubt said that of the disciple we’ll meet today on a Daily Walk.  But Jesus saw something in him that others did not!  We’re looking at an unlikely calling today as we join pastor John Randall in Matthew chapter nine.

Marriage is sacred and something God created with a purpose in mind. He put it together and wants it to stay together for a lifetime. It’s not hard to see a growing number of marriages today are ending in divorce! Ever wonder why and what if anything can be done about it? Let’s look into that today on A Daily Walk. We’ll be camping out in Matthew chapter five and verses thirty-one and thirty-two.

Matthew Chapter eight opens with a number of healings.  And these healings drew people who were impressed and inspired by the things the Lord was doing. Jesus had an interesting response to those who witnessed His miracles and sought to follow after Him - one we’ll look over today.

The earthquake that recently devastated Turkey was a sad spectacle to witness. But there are also very real and powerful disasters that hit our lives. And when they do, it’s an opportunity to turn our fear into faith in God.  Today John Randall continues his study in the Gospel of Matthew. We’re in chapter eight - where Jesus will challenge those who were inspired by his healing miracles.

We've been making our way through the Gospel of Matthew, as part of our Through the Bible series.  And we continue to do so today with a look at chapter eight. Many of us would be quick to say we have faith in Jesus. But what if your faith was severely tested – would you waiver or stand strong in the Lord? Let’s see how the disciples did!

Pastor John will take us once again today to the gospel of Matthew as we look at chapter eight, verses five through twenty-seven. When you’re faced with what looks to be an impossibility questions tend to surface. Often we’re asking the wrong questions.  Here’s a good question to ask, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?”  Keep that in the back of your mind and join pastor John as he continues through the Bible.

Whether it’s a temptation to engage in sexual immorality, get drunk on the weekend, or fly off the handle in anger, the battle with our flesh is real. But I’m happy to say there is power to overcome. And today on a Daily Walk pastor John Randall points the way. We’re looking at the Sermon on the Mount, and in chapter five Jesus urges us to get ruthless with sin. And if there’s anything that causes us to stumble, to cut it out of our lives.

Today on a Daily Walk our teacher, pastor John Randall will present a message on false prophets and teachers. This teaching is based on the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew chapter seven. False teachers are certainly prevalent today as they were in Jesus’ day. Christ warns us that these false prophets are ravenous wolves in sheep’s clothing. That should serve as a wake-up call to every believer to learn to tell the difference from a true man of God and a ravenous wolf. Today we’ll discover that to learn a man’s intent, you need look no further than his life, and the fruit he bears.

See if this sounds familiar.  You’re driving down the road thinking you’re well on the way to your destination.  You pass several signs that say otherwise but they don’t catch your eye.  Finally you come to the realization that you’ve been going the wrong way!  Maybe that will happen to you, spiritually speaking, today on a Daily Walk.  Countless people today think they’re on the highway to heaven, but in reality are on the road to destruction.  Pastor John Randall takes us to Matthew seven, as we continue through the Sermon on the Mount.

Maybe you’ve noticed sin sure looks worse on others than it does in ourselves.  We’re quick to point the finger and say, “Oh how could they.”  But we overlook our own faults.  As we open up Matthew seven Jesus makes it clear we’re not to judge hypocritically. And before you confront someone, make sure you take care of what’s going on in your own life.
