TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL

July 14, 2008

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual mil, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

--1 Peter 2:2-3

We all know that a well-balanced diet is essential to good health… but what about our spiritual health?

If we are going to grow strong spiritually, we need a constant diet of the Word of God.

To taste the goodness of God, to experience the reality of God in our lives through Jesus Christ, we must go to the Word of God. Scriptures provide everything we need for strength and success in life.

The mark of a growing Christian is someone who “abides” in the Word of God. Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples” (John 8:31).

The Word of God fills us with counsel for life… correction when we get off the path… and strength for the battle. And the Bible gives us encouragement and hope.

You see, when you open the Scriptures, Jesus walks out of the Word and right into your life!

So today I’d like to ask you this: Are you growing in Christ? Because if you are not moving forward, you are probably moving backwards in your Christian life. And that may be because you are in a weakened condition.

It is a signal that your spiritual life is sick if you have no appetite for the Word of God. Just like it is an instinct for a little baby to crave milk, believers should cry out for the milk of God’s Word. It isn’t an option!

We desperately need the Word of God in our lives that we may get stronger and grow up in our faith. So, let me leave you with one final question… got milk?

MAKE TIME TO READ AND STUDY GOD’S WORD TODAY.
